Has anyone gotten pregnant after tubal ovarian abscesses?

I am 26 years old and was diagnosed with tubo ovarian abscess last Thursday. I was started on IV antibiotics and oral antibiotics. The abscess is formed due to chlamydia I contracted. Despite having several negative STD screenings this was something I was carrying for a while. Each abscess measures 2 cm I had two abscesses on my left ovary and one abscess on my right. Being the young age of 26 me and my spouse were about to start trying for a baby before all of this happened. From what I can find online pregnancy after tubo ovarian abscess comes in around less than 15%. I do notice there's not much literature on the situation however you know being Women's Health and all. I was just curious if there's any success stories of people who have gotten pregnant after tubal ovarian abscesses and if anybody had any opinions as to whether serrapeptase could be helpful once I'm Healed.

Hi Geosgirl,

I’m sorry to hear of your news. Like many conditions such as PCOS, endometriosis, adenomyosis etc there are those that do become pregnant and those that sadly do not. Whilst it is useful to get others stories on this I would advise that it maybe best to use this information to help you rather than feel that pregnancy might not ever happen - in the endometriosis and adenomyosis there are plenty of stories on infertility extra but some of these might not even be due to these conditions it might be something else etc. Plus those that do become pregnant usually don’t post their success in part because they are too busy or through not wanting to upset others on the message board who can’t become pregnant. If I were in your shoes I probably would do the following:

1) Continue with the antibiotics and then go to any follow up appt you have or ask for another set of tests to make sure the infection has actually been successful treated.

2) Due to your age you are unlikely to be referred for IVF if it’s still covered on the NHS where you live until you have been trying for 2-3 years. But definitely check with your CCG on this. You can either ask your GP or ring them directly I’ve done this myself for another problem and they were very helpful.

3) If you have been given the all clear (test first) you can stater trying for a baby but don’t put too much pressure on yourselves as stress has a negative impact look into stress reduction techniques including yoga, mindfulness etc. This is a way of also being kind to yourself.

4) If after 6 months you are unsuccessful you could book a private appt if you can’t get one through the NHS with a fertility specialist. Many fertility clinics on the NHS offer private appts which I think is a good idea to look into these as you know they are carefully watched by the hospital bosses and others in the NHS to make sure they behave. Private clinics run by NHS fertility specialists are still very good but as with all private medicine there are unscrupulous doctors so if you do have IVF privately go with someone who also runs their own NHS clinics. The appt should ideally simply be a discussion on how likely you are to become pregnant, if there is something the GP can do, the fact you have been trying but not successful so far etc. The specialist might advise your GP to refer you on the NHs to their clinic. I probably wouldn’t go private as all tests, medications, any surgeries etc would be private which is extremely expensive.

5) Be kind to each other! As trying for a baby with this uncertainty hanging over you is extremely stressful for both of you. It’s so important that both of you are kind to each other especially as it may turn out if you aren’t successful that the problem is with him and not you. So keep an open mind on the reasons behind not falling pregnant but never use them against each other during an argument.

I hope this has reassured you and please keep as updated.
