Had my surgery on Wednesday 3rd . Surgeon was very pleased and so am I. I’m suprisied at how well I feel. Of course I’ve got some pain but nothing that paracetamol can’t get on top of. How have others got on with this procedure?

How much should I be doing? I don’t want to undo the good work.x

I had the same op in 2013. I had very little pain & felt I recovered well. I returned to work after 4 weeks. This may have been too soon as I developed a rectocele and have had that repaired in November. I have taken 2 months off this time, it is a much bigger op than people realise & you must be very careful. Don't lift more than 2-3 kgs and rest as much as possible even though you may feel able to do more. Do your pelvic floor exercises as there is a 30% failure rate for prolapse operations. You should have a post op appointment with your consultant to check you are healing well. Also a good idea to see a physiotherapist if you are offered this.

Advice please: I had bladder prolapse repair and hysterectomy 12 Oct 2018 so in recovery period. Did you have the sedation/anesthetic needle in the spine. All has gone well with me, after feeling euphoric and no pain from the surgery site I had severe constipation and trapped wind. I am dealing with the constipation and hope will be back to normal function soon. Did you have peripheral nerve sensations? I am trying to understand the tingling and numbness in feet and legs? Many thanks.

Glad to hear it all went smoothly and you’re feeling well. My recovery didn’t go so smoothly, but still glad I had the operation. You must take it easy. Your body needs lots of energy to heal, and there’s a lot going on inside that you can’t see, so lots of rest as you will tire quickly. I found I was able to do some gentle exercises in the morning, like leg drops, pelvic floor and a stroll down the road, but needed to sleep in the afternoon for an hour or so and not do much else. I learnt to knit to while away the hours because daytime TV is so deathly boring! Ended up knitting hats for premature babies at my consultant’s hospital so it was a way of saying thanks for all his help.

Hope you continue to make good progress. X

HI FireX

No, I didn’t experience that, but I suspect it’s nerves caught up in the healing process. If it’s causing you concern, please see your GP.
