Wearable Therapeutic Ultrasound, tested in pelvic pain patients. If so let us know how you got on with it

Do you think it would work Judy?

It's been in use in the USA for a few years but it is new to this country so there's little experience with it here. I'm curious to know if it is effective.

I would be interested to hear about this as I have a history of endometriosis, currently receiving treatment for adenomyosis, have a provisional diagnosis of painful bladder syndrome (finally see the urologist next week) and nerve related pain so currently under the care of a gynaecologist/pelvic pain specialist and the pain management clinic. The adenomyosis pain is the main problem for me though and is debilitating so on numerous medications including long term zoladex as everything else has failed. Are there currently any planned studies in the pipeline Judy?

There have been a couple of studies, the most recent of which was presented at a congress in the US last year. There are plans to continue with a further larger study but it probably won't be randomized as such studies are hugely expensive to do. Of course all of this takes many years so there's unlikely to be much more information for a few years yet. The idea of it is appealing as it is non invasive and without side effects.

Yes anything that is non invasive is definitely appealing. I use a TENS machine for my back pain but can't use it for the adenomyosis/pelvic pain as it makes things worse. I'm just wondering if there is a correlation between success with the therapeutic ultrasound and the TENS unit. I will definitely be looking for studies as they conclude and become written up in medical journals/presented at conferences

Ultrasound is very different from TENS

Oh yes I realise that but just wondering if there would be a correlation - more a case of me thinking out aloud :)

I have a "personal" ultrasound unit which required a prescription in the US. I don't have bladder pain but pelvic and abdominal pain due to adhesions. It has helped with GI motility and with some of the pain. Wish I could give you a more exact positive answer. I do know it worked better the TENS for me. It is not cheap but if you are like me you will try most anything for relief. Good luck
