A few weeks ago after relaxing on my setee knee and leg started to receive severe pain and no power on the right side. I have 3 prolapsed discs and thought that is was that but pain become a 9/10.
Short version spent 4 weeks in hospital and they are saying gout in the knee.
I so differ high uric acid and know that normally it is in my toe is but this is no power in my leg and lots of muscle-related pain.
NHS has been great supplying walking/toilet/ stools etc and home visits for physio and advice but no carers.
I just feel that gout is a 7/10 day episode but this has been 30+ days and , NHS are investing all this time on money on something that should return to normal in 10 days.
Does anyone else experience similar?
Never had gout in the knee
Prolapsed discs are managed with painkillers
Mobility normally is ok
55 years old
Don't drink ever
Thanks

I had very similar symptoms to yours early in 2020 before my PMR was diagnosed. Like you, I have several spinal issues. A ruptured Baker’s cyst was finally diagnosed. The initial pain with two bolts of cramp in my right knee was indescribable and I lost all movement in my leg. I was admitted to a NHS hospital and was given morphine for the pain. 36 hours later, the movement in my right leg returned. I have not had a recurrence. I just hope you will be as fortunate as I am as. Like you, I don’t drink. Good luck!
Thank you for the reply. I will look into this and discuss it with GP. All research I have done on gout rules out my issue and symptoms. Very frightening and painful but the GP has said they will do bloods for a month, then if they rule out gout then be referred to an osteopath then after they rule it out they back to neurology. But I will research your case and hopefully get some answers.
Did they put you on prednisone ? My poor mother just had gout attack on her big toe lasted a couple of weeks and I have heard of gout in knees but it seems pretty rare as most people talk about big toes.
I just have allopurinol prescribed 100mg for first time and to get blood checked at the house next week as mobility is shocking if comes back low they will increase dosage annoyingly I do not have the usual symptoms warm, redness, pain, etc that comes, and go 7/10 days, and never had gout on the knee only big toe.
I have recently been diagnosed with gout knee which was extremely painful. I also know of 3 other family members who developed gout whilst taking PREGABALIN and there appears to be a definite link between this drug and gout which I do not think is coincidental. Perhaps, as GABAPENTIN is similar to PREGABALIN, your gout could be as a result of this drug which can raise the uric acid levels in blood. I took Colcichine for 4 days but am still left with a small hard lump in centre of knee cap.
Thanks for your reply. I was on pregabalin for a few months 2 years ago but couldn't take them so dropped back down to gabapentin. I rarely take GABA now but will mention it to the specialist next week which is about my back. Still fighting with NHS on who wants my case LOL Nuero is not interested as it's gout, rheumatology is not interested as it's my back, knee surgeon not interested as it's my back. Crazy waste of time and pain and no ownership.
