I Woke up Saturday morning with a horrible surprise - knee pain. It's centered on the front left side of my right knee, a dull ache that's been keeping me up at night and making it tough to move around. At 68, I've had my fair share of aches and pains, but this is new territory for me. Normally, my knees are as reliable as can be, but today they've thrown me off a bit.
I've tried a few things to ease the discomfort, like hot and cold therapy and gentle stretching, which have provided some relief. I even found some helpful stretches on this website pristinaproducts.com/blogs/... , but I must admit, at my age, some of them are a bit challenging to do.
Despite the difficulties, I'm determined to find solutions to manage this pain and regain my mobility. I've also been exploring exercises recommended by the NHS roh.nhs.uk/services-informa... to alleviate knee pain caused by osteoarthritis.
It's very challenging for me, but I keep reminding myself of the importance of finding effective solutions to keep moving forward. I refuse to let knee pain hold me back from enjoying life to the fullest. So, if you have any suggestions or experiences to share, please don't hesitate to assist.
Thanks for your help and support.

Getting an x-ray or MRI sounds like a prudent step to assess the situation accurately. It's inspiring to hear about your partner's successful knee replacements and how it transformed their quality of life.
I'll definitely keep that positivity in mind as I navigate through this process.
I would agree with Madlegs, see you GP. Especially if this is a new symptom. There are many different things it could be. It might be inflammation in the tendons, osteoarthritis which will be pain between the bones in the joint, it could be gout, or any number of things. Some of those things have specific exercises and treatment, so good to get the right stuff going. Good luck!
Thanks for the reply. I have booked a visit to the GP, but in the mean time, I have been using something called hot and cold therapy, which has been temporarily helping me, particularly in the morning and evening when the pain has been most intense.
Interesting, Lyndon. I have recently experienced a similar medial side knee ache but have other medical issues in toe and ankle of the leg. So, I'm guessing that problems lower down the limb eventually work their way up to other joints. While you are checking the cause of the knee pain, and doing stretches, check/change and replace your shoes and insoles she if there are any improvements. Also consider joint supplements. Look at joint alignment and posture for which I have found pilates classes good for this. All the best.
Thanks for sharing your experience , Pjago . It's confusing to think that issues in one part of the limb could affect other joints. I'll definitely take your advice and explore changing my shoes and insoles, as well as considering joint supplements. Pilates classes sound like a great idea for improving joint alignment and posture too. I appreciate your well wishes and will keep you updated on my progress. Take care!
Hi Lyndon, this could of been written by me! Same age and same day of week I woke up with this same pain! Mine is meniscus injury, no ideas how this happened as I woke up with it too. I rested mine as much as possible and iced it every few hours. Naproxen was painkiller I use for my back anyway. I visited a physio and they've assessed and given me appropriate gentle exercises. My advice would be to visit physio as this is a long time healing and it's easy to set yourself back if you move your knee the wrong way without thinking (like I did 🙄). I did mine over 6 weeks ago and I'm still hobbling around, get yourself some crutches and rest your leg as much as you can. It will take a while to heal so try & be patient. Good luck.
Wow, it's almost uncanny how similar our situations are, VS1955 I appreciate you sharing your experience. It sounds like you're handling it with patience and care. I'll definitely take your advice . Resting and icing seem to be common denominators, in fact I just replied to a post on here saying that i'd recently tried hot and cold therapy which is similar to what you just advised, so I'll continue with that, as it seems very effective.
Thanks for the heads up about being cautious with movement too. I'll definitely keep that in mind. Wishing you a speedy recovery, and thanks again for the support!
Did you fall or twist your knee? Could be tendonitis… I have it on the outside of my left knee (IT band) because I walk wonky so it irritates my tendon … if its unusual pain for you and it doesn’t clear up with ice and rest after a few days .. go to the doctor .
