Yes, please do ask

Especially ask about: reperfusion-injury due to ischemia (link below)

+ ask about testing for diabetes

I just posted here about my version of this yesterday: here’s the link to my post, cause something in it may help you:

Hi, I've not been on here for ages so hadn't seen this. Yes, yes, yes and yes is my answer! I am currently battling a leg ulcer which has grown so quickly in size in 3 months that it scares me. They told me I should have gone to see them as soon as the skin broke (I tried to treat it myself with manuka honey medical dressings etc). I originally had varicose eczema, which had followed about 10 years of my leg swelling up, you get a red band around the bottom of your leg and the skin degrades to the point where it can easily break, especially if knocked, due to the blood pooling and not being able to get back up to the heart. Standing still a long time without using the leg pumps involved in walking etc will make the blood pool if you have a problem. Also if you are sitting down with your feet down on the floor, gravity is making the blood pool (if you have problems). So when standing, shuffle constantly and bend knees up and down if possible (policeman style, "Warm night, evenin' all"!!!), and when sitting, make sure you raise your feet up on a stool, preferably at least level with your waist. If you've got a recliner sofa, even better. Or sit/lie on the bed. Put a pillow under your mattress at night, it only needs a normal pillow, the very slight slant is enough to make the fluid run back up to where it should go. All advice I've received from the nurses and doctors I've seen. Anywayyyy, I'm now on my third dose of antibiotics because it keeps getting infected. I cannot stress how important it is to go and at least get it put on record so that they know and will see you quickly if the skin breaks. They also might be able to help you avoid getting to the stage I have got to. Maybe you need compression stockings if you don't have them already. Please do go and get advice on it though, don't leave it like I did. God bless you, and good luck, please don't underestimate varicose eczema like I did. Take good care, all the best. x

PS They tested me for diabetes too - my blood was normal. So don't think this is only a diabetic problem, although diabetes could contribute and would obviously inhibit healing too, I was told.
