Does Anyone have any experience with this? I also have severe RA and recently had a hip replacement need another hip replacement, but now have extreme pain in both hips at rest. Difficulty and painful walking. Thigh pain and numbness. Now extreme dry skin on legs as well. Tylenol and muscle relaxers and RA biologic does nothing for pain. Dolibid helps somewhat. Have some arteriosclerosis . . .have been checked for DVT 6 months ago and OK. Pain started about October. I cannot discern if it is just ongoing RA osteoarthritis osteoporosis pain or PAD on top of it? Anyone? I take a beta blocker no other meds for DVT heart. Thanks.

Thank you. I've been just living with it but now I'm pretty much bed bound. So I must figure out before I replace another hip if this is PAD. Thank you for the well wishes. I hate the thought of another specialist and more tests!

Hi

Sorry to hear you are in so much pain.

I also have very bad pain in my thigh numbness and pins and needles, I saw my GP on Monday and he thinks my hip bone has moved in the socket, and it’s pinching the nerve that runs between the joint, he sent me for a X-ray to see if that was the problem, if it is that then he thinks physio will put it right, if not I may need hip replacement, the pain is agony when I stand or walk, but sitting or lying in bed it isn’t so bad, but I do take 20mg of amitriptyline at night, but he did say he didn’t think it would help the pain, no pain killers do anything.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Oh dear, I am so sorry for your pain. I know it well! My right hip was replaced in April, badly I had hip displysia apparently all my life, my leg was nearly an inch off, and they had to rebuild the bone from cadavers and titanium, and retrofit a ball in the rebuilt joint. Unfortunately, my left hip has degenerated to bone on bone the hip is ostopenic and I now have bursitis on both sides. Sooooo . . .I will say for you that the replacement got rid of most of the pain on the right hip. My stability is better, but my circulatory problems with probably pad are now worse. If they suggest a replacement for you, most people rebound in 6 weeks to 3 months. Mine, because of its extensive complications took 6 to 7 months and now is hampered by my left hip. How is your other hip? I still use heat and ice therapy, and was on hydrocodone pain meds for about 3 months. After my hip replacement. And at that I used a very low dose, but am very reticent to use that for my current pain. . .as unbearable as it is because of side effects. . .is gastrointestinal, etc. I would assume you are on the right course, and if you do not have any other lower leg pain that would point to vascular problems, see what the ex rays say. It still wouldn't hurt to have an ankle blood pressure check. My mind just went blank with the name of the test but I'll get back to you. It measures blood pressure in your legs to compare with the rest of your body to rule out peripheral artery disease. Feel better!

Oh I feel for you, hip and thigh pain is not a nice thing to have.

Mine started with bursitis in the left hip, I had the bursitis a while ago, and then had it twice very close together, it was pretty much agony, and a problem walking or standing, the pain was in my hip and thigh, I had an injection into the hip, it took several weeks to work, but the thigh pain numbness and pins and needle never really got better, I saw my GP after the hip pain had got much better, but explained that the numbness and pins and needles was much the same, he said it may take up to a year to go, and to rub a silk scarf up and down my thigh, I was also using a tens machine, it got slightly better but was still numb and pins and needles down my thigh, so last Monday I saw the GP again, he was going to do the checks you mentioned, but he checked the pulse in both ankles and they were good, did an examination with my legs, and said he is almost certain that the hip is misplaced and pressing on the nerve that runs between the hip joint, so I went for X-rays last Tuesday, he thinks I need physiotherapy, depending on the X-ray results, I am not so sure about the physio as I cannot put any weight on my knees, so if it’s stretching exercises that would be impossible.

I don’t think my GP knows how bad this down my thigh is, and the numbness pins and needles are just awful, he tried to explain and show me what he thought my hip joint was like.

So I am waiting to see what he suggests next, personally I think I should have had a ct scan.

But you have been through far worst than me.
