Strange pain concern

9 weeks ago I had a successful hip replacement and all there is amazingly good. However 4 weeks ago I started developing weird chest and abdominal pain for no apparent reason.

Being 70 (M)...its a concern

Went to A&E and GP surgery (saw paramedic) over last 4 weeks and had 2 x ECG and bloods that came back fine.

Had urgent CT scan and awaiting report.

Waiting for Echocardiogram as well but that will be sometime yet.

The pain hasn't gone away and stomach gurgles all day. I have started sweating heavily at night.

Have weird feeling in centre of chest and stomach that makes me feel nausea and lightheaded.

It's as though it's all 'attached' and moves when I do making me feel unsteady.

Never suffered from anxiety but that's what GP (phone call not in person) seems to think.

Plays on my mind all day now and the only time I'm not in pain is when asleep.

Has anyone else had this type of experience?

Driving me mad with worry.

It sounds like GERDS.

Lot's of medics like to blame 'anxiety' for all sorts of things. But the word anxiety doesn't really mean much. We just label a set of symptoms as 'anxiety' whether we are emotionally anxious or not. So anyone who has a heart rate that elevates or skips beats, will be labled as anxious even if they aren't.

There are loads of nerves that run from the spine through the chest wall between the ribs and down to all the different organs as well. One of these is the vagus nerve and it regulates all those things that we don't have to think about, breathing, heart rate, digestion... so if something is irritating that nerve, or one of the many other nerves around the body, we can get pain and sensations or upset digestive systems. It is easy to blame these sensations on emotions, but in some cases it isn't an emotion causing the sysmtomes, it is the symptoms, caused by something else, that is driving the emotion.

So if you don't feel it is anxiety, then say so. I hope the CT scan results come back soon too.

The issue is getting to the GP again. The echocardiogram is now set for 15 June, but still no CT scan results...Likely tomorrow or next week now....surgery closed today for training ! .

Maybe you should go to the emergency room to make sure your heart is ok before you start thinking about it being gerd.

It's a bit of a stretch but maybe it's possible that the surgeon nicked the peritoneal cavity and you have sepsis.
