Extreme sciatic pain

Hi. I have extreme sciatic pain from my right hip, down my right leg, so much so that I cannot put one foot in front of the other. My Physiotherapist's exercises for previous lower back issues have been wonderful. But now the pain has shifted to sciatica. I'm desperate for pain relief to just be able to walk!

Hi,

After an accident at work in 1995 yes 1995, and suffering all this time with chronic back pain and the pain from Sciatic nerves down both legs was enough to make you want to top yourself, I was sent to have an MRI scan, and to find out I have had a STENOSIS of the spinal L4-L5, and being told this operation to decompress this would give me back my freedom to walk and enjoy life again, now I have had this operation 16 weeks ago, was told to expect a little pain till the spinal cord adjusted itself back into place again for up to 12 weeks, now 16 weeks on and I am a virtual cripple, in agonising pain from both sciatic nerves across both buttocks, I can't sit down for above a couple of minutes, pain then runs the length of left leg, left leg numb from mid calf down, left foot swollen and numb,

I cannot drive my car anymore as can't sit for more than a couple of minutes before the pain gets to much, the same when I go on the toilet, it is agony trying to sit on the toilet seat, have been back to see the surgeon and he says everything is back in it's place where it should be and he can only refer me to a pain clinic surgeon, I am at my wits end, But a warning to you, if they put you on strong pain killers get yourself some LACTULOSE and keep it on hand as strong pain killers WILL constipate you as they did me,

Good luck finding a cure for your problems.

I have a severe pain in the same place as you. My GP said it was sciatica and it would come and go and gave mt coedene as I can only taken those and paracetamol. They didn't make any difference so I asked to see a specialist I was referred to a spinal surgeon, had an Mira which showed a cyst growing on my spine. Had a steroid injection which was like magic, unfortunately the pain came back after about 8 weeks so I'm going in for an op on August 17th in the hopes that the pain will disappear!

Wish me luck!

Hope you get yours sorted x

Hello there I have also just experienced a bad case of sciatic pain. I just woke up on July 20 with a crazy stabbing pain in my right buttcheek that radiated down my leg, the next few days it just got worse and I ended up going to the hospital and getting a shot of morphine, and a prescription for t3s and naproxen. When the ambulance came for me I couldn't even move enough to get dressed and they had to give me a needle in bed to sooth the pain and carry my into the stretcher in my bed sheets (embarrassing lol).

I only took the naproxen for a day as it made me vomit (very painful to do so with sciatic pain) so I switched to Motrin instead. My t3s helped a lot but they only gave me enough for 2 days so I switched to Tylenol extra strength which didn't really do the trick at the time but it helped my body get used to the pain a bit.

For two weeks I felt like I would never get better, I literally couldn't move off my back. I couldn't even get up to use the washroom (thank god for my boyfriend).

I am taking b12 vitamins as well as vitamin D and C (vitamin C because I developed bed sores)

Once I noticed the bed sores I was forced to get moving a bit, and trust me even the little movements help a lot, especially for being mobile again once your better. I made myself get up on day 12 and my legs were absolute noodles from just those days of bed rest.

I am still in bed on day 17 now but am starting to improve greatly. As soon as you can sit up, even only for a few minutes make sure you do as it helps change your blood flow which is very important as when you stand up you will likely feel very dizzy. At this point I can lift my legs. Stand with crutches for up to 15 minutes and sleep on my side. I cried happy tears today when I was able to stand without the help my of boyfriend.

These 17 days have felt like an eternity but trust me there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Keep positive and stretch stretch stretch!

Good luck on your recovery!
