PAIN IN LEFT LOWER RIBCAGE

Hi, I have had nagging type of pain since end of April 2018, sometime travels up left rear of back ,shots across my belly. And always have to press under lower left rib cage to relieve pain. That's how I try to relieve it. I have had MRI CT scans they can"t find anything,now there saying its a nerve in my stomach. Had one shot it lasted 3-4 days and pain was back. Going again in 2 weeks for another shot and new doctor. Been pretty depressed all summer with this pain. Take ibrophen 4 times a day for pain. Plus had an colonoscopy and The test down the throat. Polyps were found and taken out. Been to the emergency room another CT SCAN nothing and blood urine all good.I just have this pain deep in my left side sometimes traveling up rear back area. Please if anybody has any ideas of what is wrong.

Do you have Churg Strauss syndrome , most patients with this immune problem get inflammation in the catliage area between each Ribb , it has a name put plenty of posts have been made on this site about this problem , its common and could hit 3 ribs 1 rib etc the pain is equal to that of a broken rib . my GP on one visit showed me a photo from his text book from his student days , With me he is trying the anti inflammatory drup miobick and Parriet to stop the damage to the food tract .It sounds like that is the problem and it does not come up on any scans

Hi there. I too have pain in left side flank often - doctors blame UTIs and constipation but I’ve also wondered about small vessel Vasculitis because I have Sjögren’s Syndrome and Hashimoto’s and get dark petechiae coming and going on my feet and up shins. My rheumatologist agrees some type of Vasculitis secondary to my Sjögren’s.

Then a week ago I lost my balance in bathroom and fell and cracked a rib/ribs on sale side. Now the pain is horrendous all around my upper abdomen and rib cage and huge dark bruise with hematoma where I fell. So I am really interested that Churg Strauss causes this pain as got GP apt soon followed later by hospital apt - will definitely mention Vasculitis so they don’t only blame the fractured rib. I’m on max diazepam and Nefopam and Paracetamol but nothing is touching the pain - comes in spasms like childbirth contractions and i am afraid I scream with each one!

Other possibility to rule out is pancreatis which I’ve had before and can be chronic - affects left side.

Hi. I have complex pain/nerve issues following 25 yrs and 4 spine ops. I also woke up with chest/rib pain in my lower left area that travels across and up my ribs. Thought I was having a heart attack at first! Hurts to take a deep breath.

My pain doc says it is likely Costochondritis - inflammation of the inter-costal ligaments between the ribs. Most likely cause is the way I am holding myself due to the pain I endure. This makes some sense as my gait has changed as I now need a hip replacement! Anti-inflammatory gel helps more than yet more tablets and heat eases it. It comes and goes and I'm beginning to see a pattern linked to the amount of tension in my body. Not much to be done except do everything to untense my body, rest and heat the area and I'm hopeful the hip op will help.

This could be what's causing your pain, sounds very similar?
