This sounds like nerve compression pain most likely from compression of spinal nerves exiting from lower lumbar area . It can be caused by disc narrowing, arthritis, narrowing of the spinal colomn or many other conditions. It can be diagnosed by CT scan or MRI. A neurologist would be your best bet for specific diagnoses and treatment options .

Hi, have your Doctor check you for Bursitis, sciatica besides arthritis. I take Horse Chess nut tablets for muscle spasms, the doctor does not prescribe them but can get in a pharmacy usually or an organic type store. It has helped, maybe try putting a pillow under your feet in bed also. I needed to get a different mattress and memory foam to soften laying on the bed. I always needed a firm mattress but not no more. Good luck!

Hi Spudster

I'm new on this site and suffer the same type of pain you do, I've had it for 12years. I have had all types of help with my condition, sadly nothing seemed to of helped me. The pain clinic diagnosed me with having Piriformis syndrome (Google it). It is a very painful condition. My pain has never gone away, I am on lots of medication which does help! I've now starting to get lots of pain going right down to my ankle and toes, I went back to physio for this and they said it was "complex regional pain syndrome" CRPS. I do feel for you and hope you don't suffer as long as I have. Take care.
