Are you sure it isn't arthritis in the hip itself?

I empathise as I've had hip bursitis on both sides for nearly two years now. First of all, I agree with Paton, have you had a hip x-ray to make sure it isn't the hip joint? I not, I would ask your GP for one.

I had two steroid injections in the worst hip - one from the GP, one from an orthopaedic consultant - which didn't really do anything for me. However, you may find things get better with you, given time. Three days is quite early as sometimes it takes a little while to work. Who gave you the injection?

I asked to be referred to a rheumatologist as I was in pain elsewhere - she diagnosed osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia - and also gave me a stronger steroid injection in my hips, which worked really well and I found I could actually climb stairs again! Unfortunately, the effects do wear off after a while - my hips are beginning to ache again after six months - so if it gets worse, I will ask for another injection.

I was also referred to physiotherapy and had a course at the hospital hydrotherapy pool, which was wonderful.

If the injection doesn't work, perhaps you could go back to your GP and ask to be referred to a rheumatologist.

Hope you're soon feeling better.

Hi really feel that I shouldn't complain as on this site there are people a lot worse off I can do most things lying on my side I can do sometimes if I get in right position climbing stairs is the worse problem going up one leg at a time I can't imagine how people with Bursitis in both hips manage

Never think about others who may be worse off than you. Everyone handles chronic pain, limitations, relationships etc differently. What is pain to one person may be a mere niggle to another.

This is about you and how you need advice and support.

Anyway I am the infiltrator in the camp! Carer for my husband. I have no pain just blind but a lifetime of involvement with pain and all aspects.

But don't tell everyone!!
