hip bursitis

I’m 40 and a couple of physios says I have hip bursitis. I was just wondering if anyone has made it through this and what was the most help?

So far I’ve been given stretches which hasn’t helped. And a lot of different exercises, ones like a split squat focused on the glutes and a side leg raise lying down help a bit but the effect quickly wears off. I’m a fit active person so I’m thinking it could be a muscle imbalance issue rather than outright weakness. But it’s getting slowly worse and persisting.

I’ve beaten things before but this is really getting to me. Would appreciate any advice or help. I do two walks a day for my dog and I don’t want to stop walking him but I need some progress soon I fear.

Thanks all

I'm with you on this.

Both hips-- and I'm a side sleeper!😭

Nothing I do helps. I sleep with cushions to try and ease the pinpoint of pain, but it's really difficult.

Looking forward to the miracle cure coming from these guys!!!😝😎

I've had bursitis for several years and have had no significant relief from exercises. Cortisone injections have helped in the short-term, (a few weeks) but are no cure and their efficacy seems to depend upon who is performing the injection. I agree with the previous contributor about sleep problems...I'm trying to sleep on my back, but it's difficult...

Hi you might need a guided steroid injection to calm it down I needed it for shoulder bursitis and never needed a second one. Hope this nelps

I had guided steroid injections for bursitis and didnt work, the only thing worked for me were the leg stretches, backward ones, I was told to do the stretch back for 30 seconds every hour during the day I would do them on walks also. After 6 months of following this I was pain free. That was 10 years ago but now I have it back and cannot do stretches properly as have arthritis in knees

Hi, I had guided steroid injections & did thrice weekly swimming . I too was very active (farmers wife) found these helped . Totally disappeared when I reached 60 . I found the steroid injections lasted 6 to 8 months only thing that worked xx

I have thigh and hip bursitis. It's awful isn't it?🤗I'm sorry you have it and I'm surprised you have it as you walk a lot and can do the exercises. I can barely walk.

I really hope you get on top of urs hun🤗

Hugs Dawn

I have injections they last for about 6 mths then it comes back then have to do again yes it's really hard to find a comfortable way to sleep but I use a pillow or have got a special one you can buy put between knees to keep hips aligned good luck.

Hi sounds painful. The Mayo Clinic has information about diagnosis and treatment options which you might find helpful. It suggests conservative treatment is tried first, but if that doesn't work then there are other options.

I've had bursitis in both hips at different times. I just had to wait out the 1st one with physio exercises. The 2nd time I was lucky enough to have a guided steroid injection at a musculoskeletal dept in NHS ( they are also known as Diagnostic Centres) which took the pain away but it did wear off after about 5 months and I moved house in that time so couldn't go back to the musculoskeletal dept and my GP administered a steroid injection but unfortunately that made it worse so I just waited until it went away by itself which was nearly another year.

I had 3 spinal cortisone injections 50 yrs ago I was still cursed with back pain spending thousands on chiropractic care .Now in retirement my back is collapsing & will require spine surgery.I also have a chronic misdiagnosed vitamin B12 deficiency which has destroyed my hearing ,nerve fibres & bones.Yes I had bursitis of knees & shoulders once started on weekly vit B12 shots & co factors there was no further joint pain.Unfortunately due to a lack of nutritional knowledge everyone will find it difficult to convince your Drs of this cure. The lastest covid experiments have & are causing chronic nerve damage & disabilty. I recommend excluding gluten, sugar, alcohol, processed foods,& carbonated drinks.Instead healthy diet of meat, veggies, fruit, nuts & filtered water.Food derived vitamins & mineralsupplements are a essential requirement to enhance better health.

I have this on and off, but lately it has turned into nearly a year. Usually it disappears for months on end. In the past it was right hip, which improved with hot wheat bags on it every night. Worked a treat. But left hip doesn’t like the hot heat at all. It seamed to make it worse.

But since I recently started with Traditional Chinese style Acupuncture, my left hip is improving slow but sure. If you drive, wedge cushions are helpful , a must really. I use 2 of them. I think driving doesn’t help, but as I live in the sticks and a blue badge person I need to drive .
