I had horrible abdominal pains for years. At one time I was bedridden so I know how you feel. I find Buscopan tablets (hydroscine butylbromide) helpful. Unfortunately it has to be prescribed.I am on morphine now and my abdominal pain used to punch through it as well. Other than that acupuncture was helpful as well but it is not a quick fix. One other non medical remedy that may give you some relief is using Angustoura bitters. You have a few splashes with a fizzy drink or with a small amount of water which you should shoot as it does not taste great. You can buy it in some grocery stores in the liquor department. It is usually a cocktail additive. I know it sounds odd but for some reason it works. I have been taking it on and off practically from birth. Good luck. Let me know how it goes.

What is the cause of the pain? Morphine and codeine for straightforward stomach pain seems a little odd. What does your doc say ?

I agree. If it is bowel related, then codeine could even cause more severe problems because it mucks up your gut motility.

Hee medicationsllo BOB here

Nefopam is used in the treatment of fibro, it is a none Opiate, and you are also taking a large amount of other pain meds. Sadly I do not know what the condition you suffer from, Only one of these medications are available over the counter. You will possibly suffer abdominal pain because of what you are taking although this could be the condition you are suffering from

Under above conditions I cannot give support, you will need to see your GP

All the best

If you don't know exactly what is causing this pain, then please insist that your GP refers you to specialists for further investigations. A gastroenterologist would be a good start, and if you are female, then a gynaecologist would be the other logical one (to check for things like endometriosis) or maybe even a urologist (to check for some chronic types of cystitis). If you do know what the diagnosis is for the cause of the pain, then its probably about time you had it reviewed, so again, ask for a referral to a specialist.

i agree you should get referred to a specialist, if you are female? I had stomach pains from a young age and was told by GP's a whole range of things including it was all in my mind and after it ruining most of my teens and twenty's I eventually was diagnosed with cystic ovary which resulted in me losing one ovary and then a further diagnosis of endemetrious and I had to have a hysterectomy. if this is the case then it can cause a problem if you want children, and if you are male forget all that and push your GP for a referral. good luck x

Hi Crobins,

I think you've been given some great suggestions but I feel the need to ask a few questions before making any suggestions.

It would be helpful if you could let us know the answer to these questions; Is the pain constant or does it come and go? Can you describe the pain - is it pulsating, feels like being cut open, cramping? How does it feel with and without the meds? How do the different meds affect you and which can you tolerate better? - it might be useful to tell us what time of day you take the meds as well.

I hope you don't think I'm being intrusive, I'm just hoping that a more detailed outline will give us more information and we can tailor our responses to your actual needs. In the interim, the only non surgical suggestion I can make is not to take anything orally that might interfere with your current meds and the use of hot water bottles/heat patches or warm baths and other relaxation techniques.

I look forward to hearing back from you.

Hi Crobins,

I know exactly how you feel, for the past 13 years i have had stomach pains, i've had scans, x rays internals external. You name it i have had it, i have been on that many tablets i can't remember all of them. I have been on morphine tablets for 4 years now. Earlier this year i went to pain clinic and the specialist found that the pain was not actually coming from my stomach but in fact my back. I fell downstairs 15 years ago and unbeknown to me i damaged my back and now i have a curved spine which in fact was causing me to have pains in my stomach.

I so hope they find out what is causung your pain x
