Tissue found in pelvis reoccurence ovarian cancer

My mum went for her 2 year check up and at the CT scan they found tissue in her pelvis. We're waiting for surgery and they are either going to do key hole or a full cut open (she has already had a full hystercotomy). Depending on the outcome she will then need chemotherapy or not. Has anyone else had any experience of this, if so what surgery did you end up having and was chemo needed after? Many thanks. Xx

I was offered surgery for recurrence as part of a trial (I declined because of my personal circumstances at the time) but was told that it was standard to follow up with chemo. We're all individuals with differing clinical needs though. Hope your mum goes on ok.

The waiting doesn't get any easier. I'm treated at the Christie too; doing fine really but currently on chemo for my second recurrence but I can't complain as I was diagnosed over 7 years ago. Xx

Hi there. I'm sorry your mom faces this much uncertainty. I've been told by my medical team that it may not always be immediately apparent what the tissue is made of until you actually operate. So they might start with key hole surgery and maybe even change to a laparotomy if necessary. Then the tissue will get analyzed to be sure of its makeup.

That's when she will know whether she needs to be worried or not.

Crossing fingers that it will be a harmless cyst or similar. All the best. Maus

Hello there

I had surgery in January fir a recurrence after 4 years. They did not plan keyhole as they knew the lesion needed removing so i had the full ‘cut open’ . Although it was a big op and same size cut as the first time and followed by chemo, i didnt find it as hard as the first operation. I think the hysterectomy with all the hormone changes makes the first operation much tougher. All is behind me again now, and for me its nice to be rid of it again i finished chemo in june and i am doing well so give your mum our love and hope that helps xx
