hi all, I haven’t felt strong enough to come into this site since loosing my beautiful mum end of July but wanted to share something with you.

My mum was under her local hospital for treatment if I had of know about the Christy hospital we would have took her there first. Trying desperately to help mum when she was deteriorating I found the Christy hospital we did have a consultation there but sadly to late for my mum. Since my mum was first diagnosed with this awful illness one of my friends, friend also had the same she is 42, her local hospital had said there was no more treatment for her, and surgery wasn’t an option to remove the tumours, I said to my friend tell her to try the Christy hospital and it looks like they have saved her life so far, they have removed all the tumours they could and is on a different treatment. How absolutely shocking she was told no more could be done for her at her local hospital.

So the reason for my message is if your just under a local hospital standard cancer treatment, the treatment from a specialist hospital with this specific cancer is definitely worth an appointment, if I had of know this initially we would have taken her to the Christy hospital first off sending best wishes to all Ali xx

Thanks Ali…I am going through this right now. Local hospital didn’t want to do a PET scan and basically would just have left me to recur again but the Marsden are much more proactive. Always worth a second opinion xx

Thanks for posting and so sorry to hear about your mum. This list is the accredited gynae cancer hospitals across the Uk if anyone needs ideas of where local can help. esgo.org/esgo-ebcog-accredi... xx

Dear aliolle, thank you for taking the time to give your sensible advice while you are still grieving your beloved mother. It is much appreciated. I also wanted to say that it is very usual when we lose a loved one to feel we should have done this or that, basically much more, to have helped them. I feel the same way about my mother who passed away from gradual heart failure 20 years ago. I know it won’t make the pain less but I hope this helps acceptance of any feelings you may have on this issue. I am sure you were a great solace to your mother. That is a great gift to her. And you are working so hard to support us. That is a great gift to us. Emma xx

Sorry for your loss Ali. It seems unfair that treatment offered is a postcode lottery and that the specialist centres are not proactively offered as a second opinion. This is a really important bit of information. Thank you xx

Absolutely! Every cancer patient in England and Wales is entitled to a second opinion from a major cancer centre, on the NHS. Why don't local hospitals tell people this?
