I am just wondering if anyone else has the same chemo treatments as I do. After surgery I had one 8 hour seession of (IV) Carboplatin and Paclitaxel chemo. Then I was put on a 21 day schedule. Day 1 consisted of (IV intravenous) Carboplatin and Paclitaxel chemo for 4 hours followed by Intraperitoneal (IP) Cisplatin and Paclitaxel chemo for 4 hours making for a long day. A break of 7 days followed on day 8 by a 4 hour session of Intraperitoneal (IP) Cisplatin and Paclitaxel. I have finished cycle 5. Scheduled for a ct scan week of September 12th after cycle 6 and was told I could stop treatment rather than take the last cycle because I am finding the chemo so difficult. I was told there is no benefit to the last cycle. Just curious about this as it seems to me that if there is "no benefit" there is also no down side so why not do it? Just curious if anyone else has come across this thinking. Also, I have an ileostomy and afer IP chemo spend all night emptying liquid from it. Is this supposed to happen? Thanks for any feedback anyone can offer.

Intravenous and Intraperitoneal treatment schedule. To have final cycle of chemo or not? behaviour of ileostomy after intraperitoneal chemo.
Ronitlittle, yes, I've had the same IP chemo. It is very effective, but nearly impossible to complete as with a colostomy I could not stay hydrated and ended up back in hospital. The benefits of IP chemo are so great that even if you only have it once or twice youve greatly increased your chances of survival. It's based on a Gynecological Oncology Group study GOG172 or 182. I had it with Cisplatin and taxol.
Just saw some papers on fb about this regime but have yet to read it or experience it, I understand IP is a good way to have treatment more its more effective and less invasive. Wishing you the very best
I have had issues with hydration and blood tests showed low salt content which was also a concern. Am now getting in-home hydration from a community nurse. I live in Toronto, Canada where this is available. 6 days of hydration after each chemo treatment has been ordered. Usually they routinely administer 3 days after the combined (IV & IP) treatments but have increased due to the high ileostomy output after chemo.
Hi RonitLittle,
Apologies but cannot offer you any info. Could I ask however, where you had your IP treatment. Best wishes.
Gwen
I had the same treatment. What helped me was weekly IV fluid treatments from a home nurse I made it through but it was rough. It gave me 2 years remission.
