Sore tongue,: HIya, has anyone suffered with a sore... - NRAS
Sore tongue,
Hello. I have had a sore tongue over the last 3 weeks after being on MTX for 6 months. Felt like I had burned it so got some Diflam from the Docs and it went away. Think it is a side effect. Hope that helps x
I had a slight sore mouth with Leflunomide, didn't really notice it until I ate anything slightly hot, even pepper, but especially chilli or curry, even mild ones. I have a slight sore tongue with Prednisolone too. It seems to be a fairly common side effect judging by what others report.
But you're not on anything yet are you Shirl? If you are wanting to know if its RA the answer from me (no expert) is that anything's possible as RA can affect soft tissue and jaw but not heard of tongue pain from RA yet. Tilda x
Yes your right, I am not on any meds for my RA at present, Only had my steroid injection last week, I spoke to my sister today, and she mentioned that my mum, (Bless her), Had to take steroid tablets, and she got a sore tongue though taking them, well that what they said at the time, but she was also having chemo,
Do you think it could be the steroid injection? x
I think all the drugs we take, including steroids, can give us very strange side effects - not all of them listed in the info sheets. I'm sure if your mum had this reaction when on steroids then it is probably the same for you as these things are often hereditary. Please don't worry. Steroids turn me bipolar and MTX gives me weird taste in my mouth, especially if I eat pine nuts or grapefruit. These are strong medicines and that's why rheumatologists want to be sure about diagnoses before we start them. Hopefully the burning sensation in your mouth will die down soon and at least now you know about this so you will weigh it up each time you are offered steroids in future and ask yourself if it's worth it as I do? Tilda x
Yes I currently have sore burning ulcerated tongue since methotrexate , dosage bus at 20mg. Currently using anbesol to see if it helps whilst waiting to see if body can readjust and hopefully calm down.
Good luck with yours x
I had an expeptionally sore tongue when my methotrexate dose was increase from 20 to 25mg . Decreased to 15 mg and it went away after about 6 weeks, Increased to 25 again and the sore tongue came back. Took another 6 weeks to go and then stayed at 20mg. On Humeria and 15mg methotrexate now which is much better for me in terms of side affects and efficacy.
Sore tongue, and mouth ulcers (from tiny ones right through to big ones) frequently go alongside autoimmune disorders AND treatment for autoimmune disorders. Its possible that it could be related to the steroid injection, but I wouldn't assume anything, and would report it to my GP. If they do see ulcers on examining it, then it does add a little bit of weight to the possibility of you having an autoimmune disorder, as well as the fact that they will be able to advise you what to do for them.
Thanks everyone, will be having a appointment this week to see the GP, I will mention it to them.and let you know,
Thanks xx
Dear Shirl, get difflam oral rinse it is the best, I am currently using it for major sore throat!, which im hoping isnt medication related!
