I get "geographic " tongue all the time, im sure its related to my autoimmune disease.
See if you can get your B12 levels checked. May be low which can cause a sore red tongue. See GP and show him/ her anyway.
See your GP or Dentist!
Before I was diagnosed with AS, I had a lot of Jawa d tongue symptoms. My tongue was very painful, had vascular lesions and would go into spasms at night when I was trying to sleep. I was already under a rheumatologist for polymyalgia and GCA. She referred me to an Oral Medicine Consultant, who said it was due to inflammation and possibly vasculitis.
After AS I was referred again by my dentist, who confirmed it was inflammation from my AS. It was affecting the jaw, and the inflammation was filtering out to nearby structures. They increased my MTX which helped immensely. I am currently off my immunosuppressants as I have an infected wound, and the tongue symptoms have flared again. Dentist agrees it’s inflamed again. I find things like citrus, tomatoes and spices makes it worse. The inflammation also filters out to my sinuses so I have a long term steroid nasal spray to keep that under control. Both OM consultants said my case is unusual, and my AS is particularly aggressive. It’s also affected my heart and lungs from years of uncontrolled inflammation. I had symptoms for over 25yrs before diagnosed, by which time my sacroiliac joints and ribs had fused. Hope you resolve yours as it’s so painful 🤗
I easily get a sore tongue.
Partly perhaps because I use a steroid preventive inhaler for asthma and apparently thrush in the mouth is common (but I don't have white patches and I'm careful to rinse my mouth after using it).
I can't drink anything hot without it affecting my tongue and sometimes the inside of my mouth. It was terrible when I was on methotrexate with enormous ulcers developing and has been better since I stopped.
I've talked to the dentist, had my B12 checked, but I just find it is easily upset and sore. So it's another problem which no-one is very interested in but is a nuisance.
you may take a B12 vitamin but it could be you are not absorbing it
