White tongue

Hi I am on Humira and Metoject. 2 weeks ago I'd the flu jab ever since my IBS is bad and my mouth is covered inside my lips with cold sores, so I looked inside and to my horror my tongue was heavily coated in yellowy white and mouth ulcers. Rheumy nurse said buy nysatin but does it work and what will it do to my IBS?

Hi. That sounds dreadful! I had something similar...it turned out to be oral thrush on top of shingles. Not saying this to alarm you but it took 4 different doctors before it was diagnosed. Any sores elsewhere on your body? Any nerve pain?

Acyclovir for shingles...5 a day for a week...they're like bullets! An anti fungal for the thrush. As I said if the sores are shingles you'd usually have more sores elsewhere...often adjacent. I had a large sore on my scalp and smaller ones on my face. Had about 4 on my tongue too but they dont look like mouth ulcers.

My heart goes out to you my poor Mum had shingles and it was hell I hope you have no nerve pain and the tongue is all cleared up. Thank you for answering.

Hey you're welcome. Yes all ok-this was about 18 months ago. I've got a dent in my scalp where the worst sore was and a few bald patches on my tongue which have remained a bit sensitive but otherwise ok. I did suffer from the neuralgia for a few months afterwards. Even a slight breeze would set it off...sharpest pain I've ever felt. None for a year now thank goodness! RA is enough thanks lol

I had bad oral thrush when I started on rituximab , i tried nysatin but it caused a rash , I found Daktarin effective along with gargling with warm water, salt and cider vinegar. I hope it clears soon 🌸

Daktarin I only thought it was for your feet. Thank you for the heads up on an allergy because I have become very allergic recently. Thank you for answering

Worth having a word with the pharmacist who could advise on what to use - and also what would be the cheapest options!

The pharmacist like my GP is anxious about anti tnf contraindications so I am left to the kindness and knowledge of fellow sufferers, thank you for replying.

Nystatin is prescription only med anti fungal, you can buy daktarin oral gel from your local pharmacy for oral thrush, not to be confused with the daktarin Antifungal foot product l, ol two very different ingredients and area of use, I'm a registered pharmacy technician

I am exceptionally grateful for you taking the time to give me that info. I wonder if I should try the Daktarin first? I am just worried the candida it is down my throat and across to the ears and I guess I'd have to have Nystatin. I would prefer just an oral swish rather than ingestion and all the side efffects.

I've got a really bad virus with a painful throat and chest so decisions when better
