Hi guys, I am having lots of spots on my tongue that hurt and hurt when I eat this is a second episode of having this. I have tried bonjela sorry wrong spelling I think. Has anyone else had this before. Do you think it's worth ringing rumey nurse up? I have noticed that if I eat something salty the pain is quite bad. I don't put salt onto my plate anymore now just wondered if you have heard of this. I am on hdy, lefluomid and Benepali and codeine and naproxen when I need it. Thanks guys. Ps we had a good holiday in Scotland, we came back today. The sun 🌞 was scorching the last few days and today. Take care.

Spots on my tongue
HI Carol. I can't help about your tongue I'm afraid but I'm glad to hear you had a good holiday with good weather. xx
Do you think it might be oral thrush? I’ve suffered a lot from this in the past and it makes eating very painful
It does sound a bit like thrush, Carol, as Helen has said.. Years ago I had apthous ulcers on my tongue, as a side effect of Gold injections, and had to come off them. I think you probably need to see your GP for a face to face for a diagnosis to get it treated. Good luck, Kx
I get inflammation in my jaw, which extends to my tongue, resulting in vascular lesions on my tongue. I have AS and the jaw is often affected. MTX helps mine. It’s currently flaring and causing a lot of tongue pain due to missing 2 weeks of MTX whilst on antibiotics. I find gels useless. I use the liquid version of Anbesol, which has a local anaesthetic in it and numbs the pain.
Is it possibly thrush. It may be a reaction to one of your meds, so may be worth chatting to you team.
That sounds horrible, Maureen. I'm glad you have found something that numbs your tongue, but it must be taking away a lot of the pleasure of eating. It often amazes me how many 'side effects' we get from our autoimmune issues quite apart from bad reactions to the medications. Takce care, Kx
This sounds like thrush to me which is a fungal infection. You can get something from the chemist to help.
It could be folate deficiency.
I have phases where my mouth is uber sensitive but I also now use an oral mouthwash as we can get thrush a lot in the mouth due to meds x
Thanks everyone for your replies, it seems to have disappeared again, maybe it's like a little flare up with all the worry and stress I am having at the moment. Take care.
More than likely. Take good care of yourself. Being rundown will affect things xx Maybe start taking one of those big Vitamin C tablets every day (dissolvable). Not a cure, but may help keep things at bay.
My mum has lichen planus (probably spelt wrong) which is an auto immune condition that sounds very much like what you describe.
I had the same problem when on the same treatment. Rheumy will prescribe a specific mouthwash not bought over the counter, so do get in touch with them. sadly its a side effect of our meds.
