Has anyone experienced pain in the balls of their feet? At the moment I have a very painful left sole. I'm working a weekend as a nanny in a house with mainly hard wood floors and so I don't know if it's that or whether it's connected to my RA. It's particularly bad with shoes on but is painful just walking in socks. Has anyone had anything similar?
Sore feet!: Has anyone experienced pain in the balls of... - NRAS
Sore feet!
I used to get pain in the feet heels and balls of the feet but since being on bio
Meds don't get it much
Do have the painful heels but apparently that goes away after a while Can't remember the name fur it. As have got fibro fog So you do get pain on the balls of your feet from RA. Well I did anyway
Hope that helps in someway
But worth checking with your rhummy
Yes. I think there are several possible causes though, including inflammation in your feet and/or the possibility that your arches have dropped and you need orthotic inserts for support... If it keeps happening, ask your GP for a referral to podiatry.
Plantar fasciitis? very common in the spondyloarthropathies (AS, PsA, etc)
Oh my, I can feel your pain That's how my RA started. I couldn't even walk...I went from a size 8 shoe to a size 12....Go to your rheumy right away...I didn't and now I have claw toes with my 2nd and 3rd toe spread apart on both feet.
Take care and I wish you well
Sue
Talk to your rheumatology department. I've got claw toes (ouch) and my 2nd & 3 toe spread. The balls of my feet hurt as soon as I get up. I've got insoles from podiatrist but so thick I can't get them in even trainers. I've bought sketchers memory foam trainers which give me some relief.
The pain on the balls of my feet first occurred in 2012 and I still don't have claw toes, so I wouldn't freak her out. I definitely think massage is in order though! And taking it easy. I sometimes get pain and inflammation after a long run. I switch my workout routine to cycling and I can still get in my exercise while giving the metarsals a rest. Good luck Becky!
Thanks! I googled claw feet then wished I hadn't!
I didn't mean to freak you out Beckywood89.
It took along time for my doctor to diagnosed RA. I had extreme ball of foot pain for about 8 months before my toes clawed and separated. By the time my doctor figured out that I had RA, saving my toes where too late. But it's not too late for you.
Take care
Sue
That must have been horrendous. I was really luck that I got my diagnosis early and got treated
Yes, feels like I'm walking on marbles sometimes. Clemmie
Very common, sadly. RA causes inflammation of the joints at the ball of the foot, which loosens their ligaments and can cause pain as the bones are then misaligned. I have custom made orthotics (insoles) that really help keep my feet properly supported/aligned. Walking in bare feet is a thing of the past for me as my feet have the most damage (from before I started on the meds).
Ask if your rheumy team has a podiatrist that specialises in arthritic feet and ask to be referred. And make sure your shoes are as supportive as possible -especially if you're running.
Yes I suffer badly and burning. I was sent to the podiatrist who made me special in soles for my shoes. She also recommend trainers which I bought and when walking now I float and I'm much more comfortable. She also said to wear them indoors but I don't.
Yeah. When I was first diagnosed my feet was painful in the balls. Hot sweaty and swollen. Know I get pain in the balls still and swelling in my achilles heel and bunions appearing. Asked to be passed to a podiatrist and the clinic says I am out of its boundaries. Feel like I am fighting a losing battle. So hey ho. Ya not alone. Xx
Yes, it was actually one of my first symptoms, and I still have problems now and again. It's usually related to spending a lot of time on my feet, either standing, walking or running. I wear "barefoot" footwear (Vibram five fingers) which have been great for joint mobility, but obviously don't provide a lot of cushion. When my metatarsals are bothering me, I give them massage and try to give them a break. A nice change is cycling, as it doesn't require putting pressure on that area of your foot. Or take it easy
Often. Did go away once I was on Humiria and has been fine for over 2 years but recently has reoccurred now and again
I had dreadful pain in my feet especially the balls of my feet. Definitely the RA, getting my medication right has certainly helped. When I have a flare my feet become very painful again. Hope yours ease soon x
Soft double soled slippers helps to reduce pain than the high healed ones.i too had but now better mild pain.
