Hi ,I have rheumatoid arthritis since I'm 24.

Not diagnosed until I was 30, so years of untreated damage.

Had a bad flare with my hand last year changed me from enbrel to orencia. Thankfully it worked. Have dry eye and have been put on Ikervis drops also immunesuppresent.

I feel absolutely wrecked.

Anyone else on these eye drops ?

Are they safe?

Thanks

This info is for people who take it as a main drug, not eye drops, but you might findit interesting. However you are taking a VERY small amount in comparison.

Hi I use hylo eye drops. They were recommended by an ophthalmologist as my eyes have always been dry since I have had RA They work very well and I have no problems over at least 20 years

To sit alongside prescribed meds have you tried fish oils and hyaluronic supplementation?

"The same autoantibodies that attack your joints can target your eyes, preventing normal tear production. The immune attack on the surface of the eye is a mirror image of what is destroying the joint synovium explains Sandeep Jain, MD, professor of ophthalmology at the University of Illinois College of Medicine."

I have RA and take both of these supplements. The hyaluronic supplement took 11 weeks of use before it kicked in however this has worked very well for my hands (due to increasing synovial fluid levels) and I understand can be equally useful for dry eye too. I get my hyaluronic from Weightworld and fish oil form Primal Living, as such the quality is there. Hope this helps x

Thanks they are but I’m useless at remembering to use them throughout the day. I had Visco tears too but struggled to squeeze the tube as I have RA & hands not very strong. They gave me an alternative but it feels greasy & I prefer the Hy Lo Forte ones.

Of course it is generally safe or it would not be on the market , but whether it is safe for you will be judged by your rheumatologist. …..& you will presumably be prescribed a trial dose he/she thinks it will be suitable for you.

All the drugs we take can be hit or miss, so deep breath & trust your rheumy’s decision .

Hi, I'm on Orancia, re RA, and also developed dry eyes a year ago. My Opth. recommended Hylo eye drops....no dry eye symptoms since! They work very well for me.

Try Optase moist heat mask. Works well as a back up

I find eye gel works best for me. I have RA and dry eyes. I tend to use clinitas gel at night and I find it helpful. Some people find it greasy. I sometimes use an optase moist heat mask. I tend to eat oily fish twice a week.

Hi, I am on both of these medications so are perfectly safe together. Eye consultant and rheumatologist happy with this combination. Hope they both work for you x
