Easy squeeze eye drops

Happy and healthy new year to you lovely people. I have recently had a hand op and my other hand is giving up the ghost. I have Sjögren’s syndrome as well as ra and have to put eye drops in regularly. I was wondering if any of you use eye drops that are easy to squeeze or if any of you use a bottle applicator. If so which drops fit it. I usually use thealoz and then are too big for an applicator. Thank you.☺️

Gosh, that sounds awkward. I use either HycoSan, or Hyabak or Theolose Duo. Unfortunately for you I find them all easy to use so that doesn’t help you. HycoSan has a plunger action that might be ok for you to use with one hand.

I have heard of people who lie flat, close their eyes and just drop the drops onto their closed eyes which then roll into their eyes when they open them. You would possibly waste more drops doing it that way but you wouldn’t have to be as accurate as aiming for an open eye.

I also saw a little gadget in Boots that you could do something similar with. Might be worth asking your local optician if they have any suggestions.

thank you. I can’t use the plunger type atm as i find that even harder. The hyabak I think is the same bottle as thealoz isn’t it? I’ll check the gadget in Boots out though and it’s a good idea to ask the opticians thank you for replying to me .

Viscotears comes in a soft squeezy tube. I find it easier to use than the ones like hycosan where you have to push two parts together. Hycosan night likewise.

Thank you I’ll have a look at viscotears.

Have you spoken to the pharmacist? They will know all that's available and should be able to help. Sorry I've no personal experience but have a friend with sjorgens.

I use Theoloz duo. I'm not sure if it will help you, in your position but they are much easier as have a button rather than having to squeeze. I hope this helps.

I use these too but no button. I’ll ask a pharmacist. Thanks

I think maybe that button isn't the right word. It is a pump action on the bottom. I find the easiest way is holding the bottle upside down and putting my thumb next to the nozzle then fingers are free to press. I hope this helps.

Thanks Sheila I’ll have a look at this

Hylo Forte

I found that my drops were still usable( got a bit of a face wash too!😂)

I’m on Hylo Forte. It fires one drop out at a time.

The suggestion of asking the pharmacist is a good one as they will know what drops come in what packages.

I am on individual application phials Carmize which so far so good for ease.

I have Sjogrens and very arthritic hands. Most eye drops I find difficult to use. I was prescribed Hylo-Forte which is in a pump dispenser so can be used with one hand whilst the other holds down the eyelid. Hope this helps and that your hand improves soon.

Thank you but inky one handed atm!

Sorry, only! Had hand op

Ah, I see your problem. I have just tried doing this one handed and it is possible, if done carefully, to get the drops in without pulling the eyelid down. Lots of blinking!

thank you but I have the added problem of my left hand being deformed too and very painful as I had to stop my meds for over a month because of the op and I’m now having a flare. Also because I’m using it for everything now as other one in a cast.

I have this problem too but can usually manage tilting my head back and squeezing with both hands. It helps if the bottle is warm and a bit softer. Wouldn’t you think that some clever so & so could come up with easier solutions for eye drops. It’s like tops on bottles and pill packets. 🙄
