Morning everyone, Well i have been on the iron tablets for two days now and boy do i know it what with the big dose of steroids i am on as well. My poor tummy is poorly that every morning since i started taking them. It has not been fun i can tell you. I have to laugh i hope i lose some wait with going to the loo all the time. I feel so exhausted as well and all that without adding in my hip which is still very painful. Well i can look forward to feeling brighter in the coming weeks i hope when the iron tablets do their job.

Have a lovely Sunday everyone. xxxxx

So sorry to hear they're affecting you badly Sylvie . Thank you for your kind wishes. Bless you, you have so much kindness and love to give .

You're an inspiration in the way you keep going and manage to find humour in a difficult situation

I hope you start to feel more comfortable soon.

I’m glad the iron tablets are working for you, but sorry you’re having to spend so much time in the toilet! My iron tablet’s haven’t started working yet, but I’ve only been taking them for a week. I had a lovely 3 hour nap yesterday afternoon, but what a waste of a day!

I’m sorry but you need to go back to GP and talk about a different tablet. Don’t take anything not prescribed as it might affect the absorption. I know it’s early days but don’t wait to long as constant upset tummy is really bad. I hope it gets better but please don’t just put up with it.

I have it on and off for a long time darling. Antibiotics do it to me as well. xxxx

You might have another issue, so you really should go back to GP if its B12 then it can be given by injection as I have as malabsorption of B12 so its a real issue. I have same with antibiotics but don't just leave this as you're getting rid of the iron before it does any good. Sorry Sylvi but I don't think you should ignore this. Plenty of brave buried patients in churchyard who just carried on. We not medically qualified but please talk to the GP this week as this is not normal.

Sounds awful Sylvi. I know how exhausting an ITU can be with constantly running to the loo.

Could your doctor not arrange for you to have your iron by infusion? I think (but not sure) that infusions bypass the gut. Someone in my Pilates group had one last week, she said it took a while as the nurse slowed down the flow as it was her first infusion. Maybe you could speak to your doctor or one of your consultants because this doesn’t sound like it’s good for you especially with other things going on.

Can you ask if a different variation of the iron tablet is available? I couldn’t take the tablets when I had anaemia in 1995. Sorry your tum is in turmoil. You don’t need this added to the other health issues you have to face. xx

oh sylvi know how you feel been dealing with D & V since stopping the Co-Codamol body trying to readjust. On top of that my RA appt tomorrow cancelled now put to next week.

Hey pain bit easier but rest of me feels like it's going through a war.

Great you have contacted the rheumatologist Sylvi. I hope they can sort you out. It is definitely something that needs to be looked into. Having diarrhoea regularly isn't good for the system.

My mum was the same, very sensitive to meds, but I think the omeprazole she had been on for many years had affected her bowel.

Good luck. Let us know how you get on. xx

So sorry Sylvi with what you’re going through, you’ve had more than your fair share!

I was on iron tablets as I was anaemic and my fatigue was very bad (the Specialist told me it’s very common with people who have autoimmune conditions, something to do with the antibodies hindering iron absorption) 🤔 Anyway the oral iron gave me terrible tummy pains so I had an infusion. It took about 2 months to kick in, but I have to say I feel so much better now energy and fatigue wise. What I would say though is my ferritin went from 12 to over 600 - then my ALT suddenly went very high after years of it being stable on Mthx. I did wonder if I had a kind of iron overload of my liver? The specialist who did the infusion said that wouldn’t the case? I ended up having to come off Mthx temporarily and my GP sent me for an abdominal ultrasound (which came back clear).

Anyway, what I’m trying to say is these things should always be used with caution just in case.

Hope you feel better very soon. 🩷
