Slightly off topic but relevant………

Hi All

Anyone had a reaction to Moderna Spikevax this Spring? I’ve had eight vaccinations so far -seven Pfizer and one Moderna with no problems or reaction following any of them until yesterday’s Moderna.

Felt tired yesterday evening, very tired this morning and then suddenly dizzy and sick this afternoon. Dizzy is not one of the common side effects listed, tiredness is. I am aware there’s all sorts of variations as to who gets what after vaccination but interested to know if anyone else suffered from dizziness/ vertigo and how long did it last.? I was fine before the jab so suspect it’s got to be the problem.

Thanks in advance and if I hear nothing, that’s great as nobody else has had a problem!

My 8th vaccine was Moderna. My daughter and I both had it, she as my carer, and we both had a reaction. I had a fever, shivers, aches, I felt really sick. I had to take my bed for 2 days! I haven’t reacted to the other 7 vaccines, but I’ve turned down number 9.

Wish I had turned down number 9! Wonder what makes your body react so differently. You weren’t dizzy though?

I wasn’t dizzy but I did stay in bed and slept a lot.

Yes so did I. Worth it for the protection it gives

I felt a bit “fluey” after my Moderna (10th jab) but it lasted less than 24 hours and I did not feel sick at all. Could you have picked up a bug - lots going around including Covid!!

Amnesiac3637 profile image
Amnesiac3637 in reply toLolabridge

I don’t think it’s bug as it’s happened the very day after the jab though who knows! I was just wondering if anyone else had been dizzy after their vaccination. Sounds like you weren’t but had a listed reaction. Glad you’re over it 😀

I had the Spikevax a few weeks ago and felt absolutely dreadful the next day with bad nausea, hot, sweaty, flushed and bad joint pains, I had to get up at 2 am and take paracetamol to enable me to get to sleep. This for me was as bad as the first Astra Zenica. Hubby was fine!!

Oh poor you, the things we go through to make us feel better!! Quite a few people have said the Moderna this time round has been vicious but I can’t find anyone who has been dizzy……

It's on the Gov.uk PIL leaflet under Uncommon side effects so you're one of the unlucky ones. Hope you feel better today.

Thank you, yes I do feel better today and hoping that’s it for this time! I’ve just properly read the side effects leaflet and there is the dizziness………🙄

I had Moderna 2 weeks ago,I’m still unwell.

I have dizzy spells, occasionally, this has been much worse, I’ve spent a lot of time in bed.

HaVe ended up with an infection, have just finished a course of rescue meds. I don’t think I will have the Moderna again.

I had Moderna last time,I felt rough for a couple of days, but nothing like this.x

So sorry, hope you’re getting over the infection.

I’m not immunosuppressed and not on a serious med regime but I do have a long term AI rheumatoid condition. Therefore I’ve had three vaccinations the last being Moderna which may have contributed to a flare and dizzy spells starting Nov 22. I became quite ill and during 2023 had lots of tests and scopey pokies but nothing much found except diverticulitis and low blood pressure which account for the dizziness. I’m still suffering now and GP says subclinical hypothyroidism. This seems to mean ‘not bad enough to be treated’ but also not as well as I was or could be. I have been prescribed Prochlorperazine for the dizziness and occasionally vertigo attacks after orthostatic hypotension diagnosis at A&E which I’m dubious about. Moderna may have had nothing to do with my symptoms but they all started days after that vaccination, hubby was fine, my 87 year old Mum was also fine.

There’s no knowing if it’s the vaccination that causes the miseries but it seems no coincidence that suddenly you come down with something straight after it………..sorry you're still not well and hope you’re feeling better soon.

Stills in reply toAmnesiac3637

Thank you, I think it was just a coincidence in my case as I’m still unwell now and it seems unlikely that it would last over a year and a half. The other option is the vaccine precipitated either a flare of Stills or autoimmune thyroiditis. In either case, I’m not getting worse and topical meds keep things at bay as long as I pace myself and rest. Wishing you good days .

Hi StllsMy husband, who has never suffered with arthritis, developed swollen and very painful hands and toes 6 days after the Moderna jab

He was referred to Rhumatology and when I asked the consultant if Moderna could have caused this she said that she had seen patients with new onset Inflammatory Arthritis after the Covid vaccine

She had also seen patients already diagnosed with Inflammatory Arthritis having a flare after the covid jab. My husband is now on a pretty tough drug regime and still in pain

I have reported this side effect on the yellow card scheme and would urge others to do the same

I had quite a severe, localised reaction to the only Moderna injection I received last Autumn, necessitating antihistamine treatment for a week. I was offered it again last month, and have been ringing round trying to source Pfizer locally, with zero success. I have contacted NHS119 and even they can’t tell me where it may be available. I could have it done privately, but at a cost of £75, so I may well be giving this round a miss.

Amnesiac3637 profile image
Amnesiac3637 in reply toConnie49

I was dubious about having the Moderna and wish it wasn’t the only one that was offered as I’ve been totally fine on Pfizer though I have had one Moderna in 2022 with no problem I think it may be that this is a tweaked vaccine so we react differently. Don’t blame you for thinking about missing this one!

I have had both these jabs recently and not reacted to either BUT I do know other people who had them around the same time and DID have various reactions. Not sure what’s going on. I did start a flare that’s still going on though.

It's the moderna vaccine that start my arthitis problem in the 4 hours following the shot. I was dizzy on an off until around the 8th months when it's stop. Mostly was not able to walk for three month and coughing like crazy day and night. Difficulty to breath. Probleme with my face muscle... for me the dizziness pass but other symptoms start. My mom got a month a go a second shot for shingle and she still today fill dizzy, fill like she's drunk, walking weird, night sweat, have nausea each day. Went an other time in hospital to check and need to wait for result. Did you now that you have to report all side effect for vaccin or medication? It with the add report that at some point they are able to make a list of possible side effect. If nobody do it, they can't know.

Amnesiac3637 profile image
Amnesiac3637 in reply toShadow35

Sorry you’ve had such an awful time and hope you start to recover soon.

I am going to do a yellow card report as as you say it’s useful for others down the line if they know what side effects people have had.

Shadow35 profile image
Shadow35 in reply toAmnesiac3637

Thanks but i didn't recover. My shot was in september 2021. It never stop. At least i start biologic in december 2023 and i'm a bit better, but it litteraly scrap a good part of my life because i can't do what i'm used to do before and for the rest of my life. I know having side effect can happen and it's normal but what i deplore is, when it happen you can't have help because doctor are too afraid to say it because if they do, nobody would get vaccine. All the money goes for test to help side effect for people who got the desease but no money goes for test for people that got it from the vaccine. A doctor told me it was like i got covid without having it. Because i didn't got it, i wasn't able to get treatment. Allergist told me to try by myself different medication and note the side effect qnd the ingredients to try to find why i got a reaction. It's like mission impossible. Sorry. I'm still angry about the lack of help i got from doctor. Some of them are good thank god!

I've had all brands and only time I had a reaction was when I had the flu jab on the same day. Next week it's another Moderna. The chemist told me a lot don't like it but it's the only one available here. I did say to the Rhuemy Nurse I was thinking anyway of giving it a miss but she advocated having it with a compromised immune system so 🤞

Amnesiac3637 profile image
Amnesiac3637 in reply toJackie1947

Yes, fingers crossed you don’t have any problems. I never had on any other jabs.

I did think about giving this one a miss but then thought better of it and ruined my day yesterday! No matter, am in favour of vaccinations and it’s not worth risking getting covid when you’re immune suppressed and there’s help out there to stop the virus dealing you a bad hand.

We only had Moderna offered here too. All best.

I am surprised you had Moderna Jab at all! When Moderna came into production I was barred by all my consultants and the Doctor at the vaccine Centre from having it because of the way its made. I have never had it and when it is Vaccine time I let my local centre know and I and my carer are given Pfizer.

Amnesiac3637 profile image
Amnesiac3637 in reply tolucymead

Oh, that’s interesting. Not heard that before and wish I hadn’t had the Moderna as it’s still giving me lingering, unpleasant side effects. Where do you live? We weren’t given a choice here in Shropshire as apparently that’s all they were dishing out.

Yes, I had Moderna this time and was really ill. Tired, very achy & I was burning up, like someone had set fire to me. I had had 8 covid jabs before this one & never had a reaction to any of them.

Jackie1947 profile image

As explained to me some people's immune system react differently. Some are quiet and some make a fuss. It's not a live vaccination but only once I felt off colour and that's when I foolishly had covid and flu on the same day. I've had every make going. Jab no. 9 next week 🤞
