hi, aware this is a little off topic, but since I was diagnosed with RA in 2022 I cut down hours as in receipt of Universal credit, and I’m a single parent. I’m also in the process of going through a work capability assessment.
So I’ve just been contacted by UC to say my claim is being reviewed - I’ve already submitted bank statements etc.. and now I’m getting a phone call.
Has anyone else had similar? Is this routine? I’m getting a bit panicky as I was not working for 3 months and my parents gave me money during that time to help me.
All my income is correct and my savings are within the threshold, but this is making me so nervous!
if anyone else has had a claim review would be really useful to hear what they ask.
thank you

hi. Dont worry I am in exactly the same boat. And I was due to have a review call last week. They didn’t call in the end as they were short staffed. But i presume it was to just talk through everything. I also submitted assessment forms about my health and have been out of work and supported by my parents for the last 3 months as I was unable to work due to my health. Im due to start a new job in a couple of weeks, which isn’t full time (because I just can’t do it) and I think they will be ok with this- I think the call is to review it all. I wouldn’t worry. I think it’s all pretty routine
Hi, thank you.. and I too had an appointment cancelled a few weeks ago, so this is the second attempt.
Like you my parents have helped whilst I was on SSP, although I’ve also recently started working again but I only do 16 hours per week and it’s completely flexible so I work from home. I can’t imagine how I’d do more tbh..
I have my work capability assessment today too so is a bit of a week! No idea what to expect.. and I’m sure they’ll say I’m capable of work (which under certain conditions I am)
But all the best to you in returning to work, it’s so hard isn’t it. Stress for me is the no one cause of flares and that’s very hard to avoid.. I wouldn’t be able to work full time either so completely hear you.
Yes. I've had this a few years ago. From memory I was all wound up they asked a few questions and that was it. Really no big deal. I think it was a really short phone call. If your parents are giving you money either get cash or get them to put it in your child's bank account then it's not counted as yours I think. It probably doesn't count unless it was significant amount.
Thank you, I hope so.. I’m just a bit nervous as my ex also pays my maintenance money through his business account so it looks like I’m being paid by a business! But it’s very explainable, I hope. The money from my family wasn’t huge amounts, and I’ve read you can have money from family and it was during the time I was on SSP.
I have my work capability assessment today over the phone so a double whammy this week. Really not sure what to expect and have had a relatively good 6 weeks and back doing some work after 3 months off sick, so I’m sure they’ll assess me as capable.
I'm sure it'll be fine. We'll all be thinking on you. Unfortunately I'm self employed....I think if I did a work capability assessment on myself I'd be sacked. Especially this week. 🤣🙈
yes it’s all standard a but like a PIP review to make sure where you are and do they have relevant up to date information. Income from your Mum is termed a gift.
