Mounjaro Update (slightly off topic!)

A couple of weeks ago I asked if anyone was taking Mounjaro and if they were ok.

I had very brief conversations with rheumatologist and GP (GP was very brief as didn’t care either way).

Last Tuesday I took the plunge and took the first injection.

The result is no side effects at all which was a relief.

But how do I feel now? It’s interesting as people say they feel full faster and although there may be some of that, I’m unsure if that’s psychosomatic. I feel absolutely fine and I am eating differently but I wonder if some of that is because I’m paying for something so the desire for it to work is stronger. Early days so not sure yet.

I’ve had a conversation with one of the health coaches. I could speak to them every day if I wanted to but don’t feel the need to.

So so far so good.

If anyone has any questions ask away or message me privately. Happy to share my journey.

Some say the starting dose of 2.5mg is not meant to be a therapeutic dose but a primer. Some people get an immediate benefit and others don't. I lost a stone in the first month, but weight loss has slowed down considerably now. That's definitely down to some complacency on my part. Like you say, I was initially more determined to make the cost worth it.

When it starts to work, which it hopefully will, there will be no doubt that you are filling up faster. But even so, a placebo effect is still an effect.

Hope you continue to get no side effects (acid reflux is the worst one for me) and hopefully the desired results before long!

Thank you! I stocked up on gaviscon and peppermint tea just in case

Fingers crossed but it does sounds like your using a woodland creature for some sinister purpose. Xx

I have just titrated up to 5mg , I get acid reflux and nausea. Like you,my Rheumatologist and Doctor not interested, but got some direction from my diabetic nurse who put me forward for the weight loss service OVIVA . So far it’s just been written advice and eventually I will get to talk to my coach , have to wait about 6 weeks to get this appointment. I was led to believe that eventually I may be given Mounjaro . I couldn’t wait any longer and bought myself , not sure how long I will be able to afford to do this.I started about 20th Feb and have lost 10lb which I could have done with SW alone but the suppression has made it easier , having said easier but not fully true as it’s been pretty hard going at times with the nausea and tummy pains from acid reflux , I’ve felt like giving up at these times. My Pregablin I take midday gives me stomach ache which I didn’t get before Mounjaro . Sorry for long post . Feel free to contact me if you want anymore thoughts on Mounjaro

I must admit that if I get side effects like that, I will stop

Can you take omeprazole for the acid reflux and gastric issues? I get it anyway for the anti-inflammatories and it didn't occur to me to try it at first as I rarely take the anti-inflammatories so the omeprazole just sits in my medicine cabinet. I was spending a fortune on Gaviscon Advance, which brought only mild relief. Then I tried the omeprazole and haven't had any issues since. Mounjaro does hit everyone differently though - I spent two months on each dose before titrating up, to reduce side effects.

Hopefully there won't be any side effects 🤞🤞🤞. But yes, I guess I could if I need them

I’ve just started week 2. I haven’t experienced any side effects at all thankfully and lost 5.5lb in my first week. I started Weight Watchers at the same time so am eating sensibly. I found I just didn’t feel hungry for most of the week and was eating because it was a meal time rather than because I was hungry. It’s really helped! Good luck with your journey.

Thank you. I do seem to have lost interest in food which is weird

I’m interested in how you get on. I’m starting tomorrow and excited but nervous about side effects. I joined shemed but outside of the trial. My GP was dismissive and Rheumy nurse just said it was fine to take.

I’ve done endless slimming world and the like over the last 20 years - sometimes successful sometimes not - it always goes back on and brings some of its friends along! I’m hoping that I can stay on a maintenance dose once I’ve lost the weight (if I can afford it).

Anyway, best of luck for your first weigh in.

When I eventually took it - it took a while of me staring at it for a week, I made sure I was near my bathroom, just in case 😂🤪🤪. And nothing. Absolutely nothing. I’d also stocked up on Gaviscon and Imodium just in case. I said to myself if there are side effects, I can just stop so what’s the worst that can happen.

I almost did Shemed but I don’t want to weight myself which you have to with them. I’d become obsessive. At the start of Covid I bought a forehead thermometer and was so obsessed the battery ran out in a week 😂😂😂😂. I’m with CheqUp and have a health coach who to be honest, just states the blummen obvious. Yes, my GP was dismissive too but the rheumy was behind it. Lots of luck and let me know how it goes 😊

🤞🏻we are both successful. I’ve read it can be good at reducing inflammation too so let’s hope that works for us as well!

Really interested to hear how you are getting on.. sounds all good so far! Thanks for the update , I was concerned about starting it alongside the RA Meds but it appears there are no issues. I never really had to watch my weight much until about 7 years ago, lost loads of weight when first diagnosed and even though I eat healthily and exercise I just can not lose the extra weight I’ve put on since and with taking steroids for a while also . I’m also short so can not keep going up a size plus not good for my joints, so I’ve been really looking into this too. Good Luck and keep us updated. X

Hi there. Can I ask what medication you're on if any ? Been told can't have it whilst taking Methotrexate . Thanks x

Methotrexate and Benepali. Lots of us taking Mounjaro with MTX so unsure why you've been told no. MTX are injections if that makes any difference.

Not what you're looking for?
