So I’m so fed up with al these side effects from Sulfasalazine. Still peeing lots and disturbed st night because of it. I know the pills are helping cos when I missed a dose my joints were really painful, so don’t know what to do really.
Now I’ve got a weird thing where about half an hour after taking the pills I get a sore, burning tongue. Has anyone else experienced this? I don’t have any ulcers, just sore all over.

I was on Sulphasalazine for several years and developed very sore mouth with erosive areas… but not related to timing of meds( this would not be pharmacologically correct..I believe).. stopped Sulphasalazine and mouth healed . Then started methotrexate and the same happened .I think it is due to the type of Dmard.Waiting for next appt for med review.
I had gum bleeding with sulphasalazine, then realised I had a rash all over. I stopped immediately and all the symptoms cleared up. Like 13Lab I had the same on methotrexate. Rheumy nurse tried to make out that it was probably a dental problem and to see a dentist first. I stopped methotrexate, the bleeding stopped and my dentist confirmed I have no gum disease.
I've just recently come of it was only on it 6 ish weeks never felt so poorly as I did on this drug ..anxiety , disturbed sleep nightmares out of breath and the tiredness was on another level ..very low wbc and liver was raisee told to stay away from crowded places ..I also had mouth ulcers on my tounge...got my results today and wbc are back to normal and liver levels are now better than the last 2 blood tests ..
the half life of the drug means that if you miss a dose you shouldn’t feel any effects and that’s why they say it can take a couple of months to be effective.
Have been on the drug for 5 years now and it was so hard at first. Now I am fine
Loads of side effects but they did all seem to pass. I nearly have up quite a few times. Good luck it’s not easy
