Hi there I haven't had the operation but I can relate to your hands as they are the worst part off my RA and OA and the middle fingers on both hands really give me problems my Nuckles are always swollen and I've had numerous steroid injections on them and without the use of our hands it is a struggle xxx
I had my pinky on my right hand PIPJ fused about 3 years ago and my ring finger PIPJ fused 5 weeks ago. It took me at least a year to get used to my pinky not bending and now i have to get used to only two fingers and my thumb working on my right hand, but the pain has gone! I'm right handed too but i know I will manage. X
I'm having my middle finger on my left hand done first then I will return for my pinky doing, I'm right handed but I need my left for driving gear change and handbrake, that's what I'm hoping for to be pain free.
I have very deformed hands with my RA but luckily it is not active at present. Although my fingers quite deviated I can still do most things. I have always been advised to have surgery as a last option and wish you well..
