I was just hanging some washing on the line and when I finished I had a pain that felt like a splinter in my ring finger joint. My finger swelled and I had to take my rings off. If I touched on the inner crease of the joint at either side I got a sharp sting. That's now not so painful but my finger has bruised. I really don't recall hurting my finger while putting the washing out so I'm confused. Is this one of the joys of RA?

Bruised finger joint
I get this but have never thought it’s anything to do with RA. It just happens, and is really painful and blue and then it’s like something bursts and the pain goes leaving a bruise behind. It’s always in my fingers/ hands.
After posting I did a search on google and came across Achenbach syndrome. A benign occurrence, predominantly in women aged 40-60 and appears to be more common in people with Raynaud's. I guess I fit the demographic! At least it's nothing to worry about.
yes I getthis and always in my hands
As above, I get it often. I did ask my rheumatology consultant some years ago when I was still middle-aged and and all these things kept coming and he laughed and told me it was as you have described.
If it’s not spreading out, dropping off or drooping we must thank our lucky stars……..😳!
I have had this too and Doctor I spoke with called it a ‘witches pinch’. Has anybody else heard this expression?
Interesting posts..I also experience this and thought it was also RA related... I will check into all the "suspect maybes" LOL. I personally wish if witches pinches ..she goes back to Wizard of Oz...hurt.. painful ..both of my hands and all fingers.
I have this quite often comes out of the blue! normally middle finger!!I didnt know what it was😔
I had this but in one of my toes, came out of the blue! Interesting to learn it can be a syndrome 🤔
This happens to me a lot too but I don't know why. Sorry.
I don’t have RA (my husband does) but I get the same as you’ve had - last one was last week when I caught the dog lead round my fingers - very painful at the time and when it first happened I thought I’d been bitten - I have gout and severe osteoarthritis affecting my hands, feet, knees, shoulders and spine
I get this thought it might be small blood vessels erupting . But like others I don't have RA but do have other arthritis. Mine goes painful ,red then bruises for no particular reason nor accident. Did not know there was a syndrome , thanks for info.
yes to Achenbach. I get them when I’ve had to do finger pricks or clapped energetically but I do also have secondary Raynaud’s. I read somewhere that people with joint hypermobile disorder or EDS are very prone. It says this is rare online but honestly I think it’s quite common like Raynaud’s - just not as well understood. I’ve always had random bruises and haematomas and Achenbach is of same family.
yes I get this sometimes . Last time after carrying a heavy shopping bag.
I get this and I think it's due to palindromic rheumatism 😔
