Hi

I have bad arthritis in my right knee. I have been on naproxen and was given Gabapentin yesterday as well. Only 2 days into this and no difference yet. Can I also take volterol on top of this?

I think you should chat to pharmacy, I think that naproxen and volterol are both anti inflammatory drugs so you should only take one or the othernot both

This is one to ask your GP, Rheumy or Pharmacist really as we're not medically qualified here. I do know that both naproxen & diclofenac (generic name for Volterol) are non steroidal anti inflammatories & as a rule two NSAIDs aren't taken together, including if one is oral & the other topical (a gel or cream applied to the skin). That said when I was first diagnosed with RD & OA I was prescribed two NSAIDs, one to take daily & the other when I felt it was needed. Bear in mind these were both prescribed by a Consultant who knew the safety of taking both of mine & why I think you need to seek medical advice.

You'll be increasing your gabapentin I take it? If so you should feel more benefit as the dose is titred up. What I would do is just take either or NSAID & the gabapentin & use hot or cold compresses on the knee whichever eases the pain more & rest it up but not for too long at any one time or it may seize up.

You have been given a proton pump inhibitor (a stomach protector) or haven't you, omeprazole or similiar. NSAIDs can be hard on the stomach.

Like all of the drugs we take they take weeks upo the 12 to realy start to work, some take a couple of weeks others it takes whole 12 weeks. So i am afraid you will have to be patient and like the others have said speak to someone who is the proper authourity to advise you.xxxxx

No you can't take volterol and naproxin as they are both the same type of drug. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist to see what else you can take. ☺
