chronic knee pain, can anyone help!
If you’re unable to straighten your knee, it’s usually a sign of injury. I would get it looked at, at an urgent treatment centre. If you’ve not done anything to cause injury, ring your rheumatologist. Some injuries can occur simply from overuse like the patella or quadriceps tendon.
i am dealing with the same now. Left knee was big as a grape fruit last week.
Doc sent me for X-ray and said I had fluid and maybe if it's still there next next week for my next appt they might draw some to test. But it seems the fluid is slowly going away. The stiffness is very painful from sitting to standing. Last time my knee was swollen with fluid. They drained some fluid off and did a steroid shot and after that put me on prednisone dosage which took care of the inflammation for a while.
I managed to tear my ACL with just the smallest of stumbles. My knee pain had been very bad for a while before though and it didn’t take much to damage it further. I went to A&E in the end and was fitted with a full leg immobilising brace for a few weeks then I needed physio for a while as I wasn’t able to stand on my right leg. It took a while but that was my experience of excruciating knee pain. It sounds as though you need to get it checked out as soon as you can.
Hi your knee pain sounds very similar to mine I have a swelling behind my knee which I was told was a bakers cyst so this means I can straighten my knee fully- the steroid injection takes the swelling down for a short time but that it swells up again and I'm in agony. I said at my last appointment I can't carry on like this in agony but he told me they don't treat bakers cysts, he does try to drain it but he can never get any fluid out he said I just have to wait until it burst and to keep doing the exercises I have been given - I told him how do you expect me to exercise when I can barely walk so I feel your pain. Have you had any X-Rays on your knee - after my x-ray I was told I had osteo arthritus in my knee as well and will need a replacement in the future when I'm older - I'm 59 next and feel about 80. If I was you I would contact your own GP as they might be able to help.
Can you do seated exercises or hydrotherapy I had pain for weeks still to some degree walking makes it worse and I use a knee sleeve and try not to overdo it.
I suffered with a very painful knee last year and one night it was so painful I asked to be taken to A&E. after X-Rays and examination fluid was drawn off my knee and tested and the result was that I was suffering from Psuedo-gout. I was given Colchicine for a few days and it got better, though the info from Dr.Google said it would get better by itself in 3 weeks. I had never heard of pseudo-gout before but it all seemed to fit.
I would say you really need someone to check you out and do some tests. Having said that, my other knee, which used to be the good one became very painful very quickly with the beginning of the very cold spell and isn’t better yet.
Hope you find the right answer soon and the pain goes.
thanks lve never heard of it before, l had a steroid injection and fluid removed in n November, didn’t work as well as usual although never had the pain l have know. Been to A/E they only gave strong painkillers, just come back from seeing Rhemy nurse who gave me an all over steroid injection, as l know have major flare up, but l will see how the knee goes and hope the steriod injection works. Thanks for your help Kate x
