I had a dreadful bus journey yesterday. The bus took about fifteen minuets to start, the driver was reving the engine but the bus didn't want to go. Passengers kept asking 'are we getting a replacement bus?' and 'do we need to get off?' but he wasn't answering, just reving. In the end the bus finally left over a quarter of an hour late. I think he was trying to make up for lost time because he was speeding up and then slamming on the breaks at stops. I use a rollator now and as he was speeding round the corners I had to keep hold of it because even with the breaks on it was moving. I think the suspension had gone as well or something like that because we felt every bit of the roads. Every bump send a shock through my spine. After half an hour of that I got to my stop and unsurprisingly the floor didn't lower, but I just lugged my rollator off. I swallowed my pain killers but this time they bearly touched it. After an hour my usually swollen knees were twice the size with lumps and I could hardly walk. My partner and I planned to go out today but I couldn't manage after that. We'll go in the week.
Bus 1 Me Nil
But never mind that. I am engaged! The entire fleet of rubbish buses with their equally rubbish drivers won't spoil that. I am going wedding ring shopping. I am so happy and in love. So final score.

I wish you every happiness for your future together.
This puts a whole new meaning on the expression the course of true love can be a bumpy ride - but I don't think they intended it to be on a crappy bus - lol.
Never mind it's not going to dampen your spirits is it? I will raise a glass of something cold and bubbly to you later this evening.( and it won't be fizzy water).
Brillian news, congratulations to you both. Do not think you were being hijacked because it sounds like the driver was a passer by rather than the professional but driver.
Congratulations on your engagement!!!! <3
On another note, phone your bus company and make a formal complaint. There are many good bus drivers out there and it is up to us passengers to help the good ones keep their reputations.
As a bus driver, the hard ride was most probably not down to the driver but down to the fact that they have the suspension jacked up hard and the tyres as pumped up as hard as they allow. It is all down to fuel cost cutting.
Also the last thing I need when I am trying to get a bus restarted is to have loads of questions. Buses don't start like cars, no keys but various buttons to press, hold, push things in and out and then blasted thing doesn't start and you have to shut it all down to start again.
As for bus kneeling, some don't and unfortunately they don't have to do so outside London. Sometimes the bus will kneel, but won't come up again and you have to shut the bus off (see previous paragraph).
Also forgot, some buses have a halt brake and it doesn't release and you have to rev the nuts off the bus to move. A colleague did it and unfortunately we made the local papers when it smashed into the bus in front.
Congratulations on your forthcoming marriage. What a nightmare of a bus journey for you. I hope you have fully recovered. I hope you have a very happy life together.
Nah - just kidding. Huge Congratulations, my wedding day was the best day of my life (better even than being at Wembley and winning the FA Cup 🏆 in 1987 - just😎), and as difficult as it can be at times, I've never regretted a thing.
I got my engagement ring today! I have really tiny hands. About the size of your average 10 year old girl. My hands and fingers don't swell when my RA is playing up (unlike my knees which turn into tree trunks). There has been no discernible damage to my hands so getting a ring has been a lovely not tricky event.
I knew I loved the ring because it was the one I kept thinking about after we left the shop. It's just a bit different, unusual. I knew if it had been sold it would be tricky to find another one like it.
How lovely, you know when it's the one don't you?! I didn't pick mine, it was presented to me Christmas day morning 1983 (though I was very happy with his choice lol). So are you having to have it resized? Do please post a pic when you can. How exciting! x
