Hi, I’m going to try and stop smoking in the next few months. I’m 17 at the moment and have smoked since I was 14, I have tried stopping once before and only lasted a week, I’m smoking around 7 cigarettes a day. I want to go to my gp to get help to quit but I feel quite embarrassed to go at such a young age I feel that I will be looked down at, and does anyone know if I can be prescribed stop smoking medication at 17? Is there anything anybody can Recommend that helped them? thank you x

Help to quit
You are doing the right thing, don’t be embarrassed about it, I have smoked since the age of 8 I’m 40 now 👴🏻 Kick it before it takes control of your life. Good luck on your journey
Hi, I'm 17 too and have also been smoking since I was 14. I have a heavy reliance on cigarettes, I smoke about 20 - 30 a day. I went to my gp with my mother and i was able to get prescription for nicotine replacement products. I wouldn't recommend using a vape as they just haven't been around long enough to know the long term effects.
There is nothing to be ashamed about, and to be honest i feel you would get more praise than anything else because your trying to give up smoking.
7 cigs a day isn't too bad, so I would definitely try and give them up now before you become more heavily dependent on them.
Best of luck!
