Hi ... day 15 of champix and quit day! So far so good but I have to say it hasn’t really stopped my urge to pick up a cigarette. Wondering if this is because my body doesn’t absorb food in the usual way?
I get terrible tummy cramps after taking it that last ten minutes or so. Is this usual? No sickness though... be interested to hear from others who have quit using champix, especially if you’ve had a pypass like me

Hi Madmenagerie, I guit using Champix and today is day 40 smoke free, I quit on Day 14 of Champix however, as much as everyone told me cigs tasted awful, they didn’t to me, yes they weren’t as good but not bad enough for me to not want one therefore I had to be tough and take the plunge and stop.
Luckily I’ve been fine, I’ve had the ‘odd’ moment yes, especially when drinking alcohol but I bought a vape with 0% nicotine for just when I drink, I don’t use it any other time.
This group is amazing and gives so much inspiration so stick with us all, you CAN do this x
I’ve got through the first complete day and haven’t succombed despite a grouchy, pre menstrual 12 year old! Now the weekend 🙈
The vape is a fab idea! A drink and a vape sounds so much classier than a drink and a cig!! I have a vape so just need to get the nicotine free liquid if the need arises, I very rarely drink so hopefully this won’t be a big issue for me!
Well done Mrs Day 40 ... bet you’re not coughing as much. This is what has made me so determined to do this after many, with varying degrees of failed attempts, with patches, gum, tablets, cold turkey; you name it I’ve done it but I never really wanted to or had to before. Not sure if I really want to this time but I know I HAVE to. My daughter may be a grumpy 😡 pre teen but I’m all she has as her father passed away before she was born. I WANT to be ALIVE to see her become the beautiful young lady I know she will be and I WANT to be ALIVE to see my grandchildren!!
Hi hunnie, oh I know pre teens but thankfully mine are 18 (girl) and 21 (boy) so they are out of the attitude stage
I’m a single mum like you and I know how hard it is emotionally so I get you but you know what, it makes you so strong and if you can get through that you can get through this easily.
I like my drink on a Saturday night after a stressful week at work, I get my snacks, films at the ready and drinks, my one and only chill night.
Huge welcome to our community Madmenagerie , congratulations on now over 1 week smoke free, how are you getting on now?
Several members here successfully stopped with the aid of champix - below is a pinned post with common side effects worth a read if not already done so:
hi there, I am 15 months post bypass surgery and taking Champix for around six weeks and quit about five weeks ago. I also have the unpleasant cramps and some nausea shortly after taking my tablet.
I've had some success taking with a full stomach. I spoke to my Bariatric GP about it and decided to go back on Escitaloprim which is a prescription medication that was mandated for first six months after surgery. It's a protects the stomach from acid and also treats/prevents reflux. Not sure how effective it's been but the food in stomach certainly helps. I really want to continue the Champix as it's helping so much with the quitting!
Hope you can find a solution and stay smoke free.
And congratulations on taking this step towards optimal health.
