It's now 2 years since I quit smoking, but just been diagnosed with COPD! Caused by the many years of smoking. I'm so upset and disappointed that I made the difficult decision to stop smoking to then find out my lungs are damaged, needles to say, I will never smoke again I just wish I'd never started in the first place!

Hey Chrissy589 - congratulations on 2 years smoke free but sorry to read of your diagnosis, I imagine that is very disheartening, scary and upsetting after achieving such a great milestone - how was it only diagnosed now for you, if you don't mind me asking as I am over 2 years stopped too and would be devastated with getting this news?

I bagan feeling ill with like flu symptoms 2weeks ago and had a very chesty cough and felt really breathless, so saw the doctor who diagnosed severe chest infection but also diagnosed COPD I have to have further tests done but have to wait at least 6weeks after feeling well ☹️

Hope you get sorted and diagnosis is irreversible.....

Thanks but it's not irreversible, the damage done is done unfortunately but stopping smoking has stopped it getting worse so I think it's copable with medication

Thank you I will, I just want smokers to realise just how dangerous smoking is and well done to anyone who quits, it's one of the hardest things to do but is worth every ounce of effort 😘

Chrissy..It is kinda devastating news..ask me ..a very active senior citizen diagnosed with COPD two years and 7 months ago which made me stop smoking...! and I never looked back...COPD is a liveable lung dicease and can be managed although never cured...! but ceased when you stop smoking or inhaling toxic gasses...

It is very difficult and needs very hard work and discipline to stay in shape and "fit"... I wil surely never have a 25 year old's fisique again, but I can padlle with them because I want to...Thats why I live by William Blake's saying : "He who desires, but acts not, breeds pestilence"....... If we want to we can...!

One of my biggest problems is to forgive myself for damaging my body with such a stupid thing like smoking...so unnecessary !! but on the other positive side we came to our sences and are living without the stench and are not connected to an oxygen tank....

Life without smoking is a blast ...!!!

Right on! I think this should be a pinned post Roison for encouragement after diagnosis. I don't have that, but for others who may be quietly suffering a diagnosis consequences of smoking i think this is a great positive.

Chrissy am so sorry you got this news, & havent had great news from drs also, but am ALL for us being the same stubborn people (who held on for dear life to our quits) to finding healthy alternatives to hopefully diminish our diseases.

That said i follow dr advice and read up all holistic cures/ideas too.

Most especially i get encouragement here.

Stay close we can all make it together.
