Hi I'm Branchy and I've been a NON smoker for 5 days and just needed to talk..

.... Damn this is my hardest day so far. What's getting me through is knowing that even 1 puff will knock me right back to 5+days ago and I would have gone through this for nothing.

I realise that for every 25+cigarettes I smoked a day for 28 years, I have to find 25+ new happy habits a day to replace them. So far water, fruit, spoon of peanut butter, orange juice, cleaning, talking to myself (nope promise I'm not going mad lol), games on my phone, reading, napping (when I can), pacing (when it's got particularly bad!) and repeat!

I will hang in there, and it's great reading other posts to know that I'm not alone

Hello & welcome branchy123 .

Well done on getting through your first 5 days. It is hard, really hard but you can do it. You are absolutely right about one puff setting you back. It can and it will. My last relapse after 3 months was because of 1 puff. Literally within a matter of hours, I was back to smoking at previous levels. Smoking really is, (for most of us), an 'all or nothing' activity.

Hang in there. Keep plodding through each hour, each day because it really does get easier. Read as much as you can about quitting. Check out the pinned posts on here and arm yourself with as much information as you can.

Quitting can feel very lonely. If you need support, post on here as there is usually somebody around to help. We are all at different stages and have all used different methods to quit.

Good luck. Keep going. Do not cave in.

☺☺☺☺

Hello Branchy,

It's a hard time to be going through but you're doing all the right things and keeping busy. Talking to yourself is permitted...and positvely encouraged!

I'm onto my 3rd week smoke free and I think I have lollipops to thank for it! I've bn usING them as an alternative and seems to work! Had to use suger free ones as eating 10 lollipops a day isn't so gd for the teeth haha. Down to only 2 lollipops a day! N I'm thinking it's just because I like them I'm having them! It's amazing the money we save from not smoking eh!!!! 😆😆😆😆

Good Job, it is the hardest thing to do. But set your mind to it and Believe!!! I'm on my 25 the day. I try to picture myself a nonsmoker. Why would I like a cigarette, I don't smoke. Straws are my best friends. I chew on them when I think about smoking. Just Believe in yourself.

Welcome Ldanilovics and congratulations on 25 days quit, almost at your first big milestone of 1 month! Great idea the straws, at work mine was the bic pens with the hole on the lid - that was over 16 months ago :)

Perhaps create your own new post with your introduction and story.

PS Great positive attitude which is so vital in our quits and you are so right to have the belief in yourself!
