Hello and welcome chrisiemull .

I have relapsed 3 times so I know exactly how you feel. For me, just finding the energy to even try again was actually the hardest part of all. My advice is just to pick a day and start. It is so, so easy to find a reason not to bother that day. I had an endless supply of them. Do it when you are ready. I think support is absolutely vital as well. It gets you through the hard parts. This group is the best for support so post often.

You did it before and you can do it again, you just need to take the step forward. 😊

Well it will help that's for sure. I must admit that the one change I have noticed since stopping smoking is that I get less headaches.

You can do this. Keep busy. An hour at a time for the rest of the day.

I know the sickly feeling when you cave and light that sig.then quilt.then resentment.

its so not worth it

Hi Christine, my advice would be to set a date in the near future and work up to that. Let everybody know (us, friends, family, colleagues) that you are going to quit on that date so you have some accountability.

Leading up to the date think about what you don't like about cigs and concentrate on that while you're smoking. Decide what method you're going to use and also get an app so you can keep track of your progress and the money you're saving. You've done it before so you know you can again. You know what to expect, and when, so it's just a matter of getting started!

Hi Christine and welcome.

Like yourself I have quit long term (13 months) and ended up back on the ciggies thinking I could control it. I've now learnt that its probably a life long struggle and I will always have to be strong against the temptation. There have been other failed attempts. I stopped twice when pregnant as well as cold turkey. Seemingly alot of pregnant mums quit and a very high % return to smoking after having their baby.

You have a lot on with a young baby also.

Last time I quit I only lasted a month and went back on them (for 2 months) and saw in that short space of time how the cough and breathlessness had returned and realised i no longer wanted that plus the cost as I cannot afford it. I decided to get some help and went to my chemist and am currently quitting with the help of patches which have been great so far.

Good luck with your decision and future quit. Don't give up giving up!!
