Help, I know I want to quit but I am struggling to choose my stop date. I get to my date something crops up and it gets postponed again. I am having a stressful time at the moment with a house move and a merger but I can't put this off forever!

I am struggling to set my quit date
Hello! I found that getting started on my quit was actually one of the hardest parts. There is always, always, a reason not to start. For me, the thought of trying to quit was actually quite a frightening thing. A bit like fear of the unknown.
I do think you have to be in the right frame of mind. You have to really want to do it. Perhaps a house move is a good time in a way as you won't associate your new place with smoking. Just a thought.
Know that if you want to, you can do this. You are in control and are capable of quitting.
Good luck. Hope the move goes well 😊😊
Thank you, you put it words so much better than me! I find the thought of quitting really frightening. I know that I want to do it but I can't imagine what it will be like without cigarettes.........how will I cope? I know that is irrational but that is what keeps going round in my head.
Now I know I am not alone it makes it easier thank you
Hello Gillyo66, welcome to the forum.
I had this problem before previous quits, just couldn't get a convenient time to do it! I think there is always something on the horizon that means it's inconvenient to quit at any particular time. There's never a good time to do it so I would suggest just picking a date and working up to that. Read up as much as possible, see the pinned posts, and get an idea of what to expect.
We will all try to help you along.
The house move is definitely a good reason to stop smoking, imagine! All the nice things you can buy for the house with the cigarettes money! Not to mention that the new house is going to smell so nice 😍 plus, winter coming, it's going to be so warm and cozy because you no longer need to keep opening up the windows to let the smell out...
You won't be coughing and having sore throat, chest infections.... Just a nice new clean house....a..imagine that! Now, will you set that date already?! Lol good luck! Strongs!!!
Huge welcome Gillyo66 to our community. If you are struggling with a quit date, you probably are not ready to quit just yet, but don't be disheartened as it is great you are on here and beginning your preparation.
In order for our quits to be successful, you need have 100% desire to quit and have the focus and determination that you can do it. We can do it. I am almost 12 months quit cold turkey and it took a fright waking up coughing in the middle of the night and not being able to get my breath to tell Mr. Nico thats it! It has been tough but worth it to be at the best I have been in years now....
Read up as much as you can on addiction and quitting and the pinned posts here so you can continue to prepare yourself and know what to expect and ahead for you...
We look forward to seeing you in Day 1 soon
Unfortunately, according to Nicotine, there will always be a reason to postpone quit date - life is full of them - and there is never a 'good' time. Except the 'good' time is now. I didn't find that setting a quit date worked for me as, like you, I could always find an excuse to postpone. You have to really want to quit as it is a hard road to travel. A hard road, but so worth it. You can do it - really!
