Hey

Its home time wooo and smoke free :-)

I am cutting back on smoking and am going to try and quit by oct 6

Any suggestion for me to quit smoking

Hi James. Welcome to the forum. Did you ever try to stop before? Do you smoke many a day? Cutting down slowly is great because it makes the withdrawal much easier, also allows you to practice self control. I suppose different approach for different people. What matters is that we will all stop smoking. Are you going to use patches, gum...champix or just colt turkey? Good luck and keep posting, you will always find the support uou need here.

Pedz profile image
Pedz

Its hard work no doubt about that but worth making the effort if u have a smart phone download the "smoke free" app it's excellent tells u how much u saved how the heath benefits are progressing daily and much more, but my advice is just get through one day at a time, dont think about tomorrow deal with that when it comes.... Good luck mate

We'll have the police tracing us after this! Lol I was surprised on my first quit how angry I was considering I'm usually the most peaceful person on earth. I'm not scared of it anymore, I've accepted what's coming, I know it's part of the process and I couldn't be bothered to try to change it, too much work! Im just avoiding the situations by literally walking away, I don't even answer back anymore!

Pedz profile image
Pedz

Good for you I haven't quite mastered that yet lol but hopefully will clam down in time had a few cravings today nut i know how to deal with them a lot better now..........

It could be worse, you could be dreaming abt work, that would be worse lol great to see ur still around Pete.xx

Pedz profile image
Pedz

Yeah im still here and that was "ciggie" dreams lol and dreams about work are nightmares lol so, whats up how you guys getting on?

in reply to Pedz

I know right?! Ahahah

All good dude, sometimes I would love a fag but I can't.it's not worse than when I feel like having a bar of chocolate but I don't because I don't want to be fat..

Not too bad I suppose. Bought another box of champix this morning, I have enough to keep me going for another 2 months since I only take half the dose. Nite nite!

Pedz profile image
Pedz

Hey yeah fleeting feelings of wanting to smoke are less frequent and very very brief a second or so im only doing the morning one now also going to start cutting it in half in a week or so.....going good haven't killed anyone yet so cant be bad back to the gym me thinks

in reply to Pedz

Pete, don't do it! You're walking into relapse. I've made that mistake before, please wait until you're gone past week 8. The worse time of the quit is actually around week 7.

Pedz profile image
Pedz

Oh im a month in now....((boom)))

Pedz profile image
Pedz

Ok nobody's intersted lol

in reply to Pedz

Owww sorry! We are all having a party for my 1 month ;) sorry friend, I didn't see ur post ;( well done! Massive well done! You are rocking this quit! Stay strong buddy!

Pedz profile image
Pedz

Ok will stick to one full dose in morings :-)

do please. 3 years ago I was on the champix and when I got to week 3/4 I developed the "big head syndrome " - it was so easy that I actually genuinely believed that it was Me doing it and not the champix, stopped the medication and relapsed within 2 weeks.

I then tried again earlier this year on cold turkey and learned very quickly that week 6, 7 and 8 are just rotten. if you go back to the other people's posts around this time you will see that more or less everyone goes trough the same around this time and there's a lot of people relapsing....not to scare you, you can do it and we will make together this time, but stick to the champix in the morning until you go through that phase.

I am doing one a day in the morning, im not taking the night pill...I will not stop the medication before week 16+

Hercu profile image
HercuValued Contributor

Hi Pedz....You got very good advice from Mmaya....Champix is wonderful but can be a real '' bugger".

I was on Champix full dose for 12 weeks and for the last 2 weeks half dose...and when I stopped I had a full blow of the Nicodemons "Wrath".

But I survived and glad to say that I am NOPE for 4 months 4 days and 9 hours, 36 seconds right now and enjoyed every second of it...

Moral of the story: take the champix and enjoy the roller coaster ride ...Strongs !!

Pedz profile image
Pedz

Ok guys thanks for the advice, hey i dream some crazy smoking dreams its nuts lol

Last night i was sitting in the garden smoking roll ups with my brother Raymond and he's been dead for 10 years

I know Pete, Im having them as well it's like watching a 4D movie! Crazy stuff. Last night a neighbour of mine kidnapped my kids to sell them to a gang and I chased him and end up falling of a cliff. The funny bit is that I woke up at 4 am nearly having a heart attack because it was so real, came downstairs for a glass of water and when I went back to bed went back to where I left it. Just crazy stuff.

Pedz profile image
Pedz

Wow its great when i wake up and realise I hadn't been smoking at all such a relief

in reply to Pedz

I know, it's a crazy ride! That's one of the reasons why I stopped taking it last time. That and the fact the follow up pack costs something ridiculous like 170 or 180 euros in Ireland, it's just really crazy. I did have one dream a while ago where I won the draw for 1 million euros, and like that it was real, I had the letter in my hand.it was a slow release type of nightmare, the sadness only kicked in when I woke up! My partner also says I'm talking all night long and sometimes walking lol

RoisinO1 profile image
RoisinO1Administrator3 Years Smoke Free in reply to Pedz

Hey mmaya and pedz, don't think the dreams about smoking are a result of the champix as I have at least one dream a week about smoking, had one last night, that I was smoking at the wake of my neighbour who died last February, we were all smoking in the sitting room of his house and I was ordered to smoke out of respect for the deceased! My hubbie is off the smokes a year and a half and he still has dreams about smoking again, said it before, the mind is a funny thing!

Pedz profile image
Pedz

Hi yeah its a crazy thing thats for sure but aslong as i only smoke when im asleep lol

RoisinO1 profile image
RoisinO1Administrator3 Years Smoke Free in reply to Pedz

thats it Pedz, as you said, it is such a huge relief when you wake up and it is just a dream...

Good man, that's the spirit! Rowens I've done both with and without champix, you get dreams regardless, but I couldn't even start describing the champix dreams to you...you wouldn't understand it unless you've taken the champix, seriously it's one crazy ride, they are extremely vivid, it's like you're actually there...and it's every night! I'm very lucky because mine are just crazy dreams but some people get really disturbing nightmares. It's different from your regular dream about smoking, it's intense, it's real.... I don't know how to explain it really...

I think I've definitely missed out on this Champix lark ;). There have been times (probably still are) when some exciting dreams might have made this quit easier.

Hope you are all doing well - Champix or not.:)

in reply to nsd_user663_51263

Ur missing out on the good stuff lol

Pedz profile image
Pedz

Hi guys hope you are all doing great this morning....... Yeah the champix drrams are quite bizarre however im still waiting for the exciting dreams linda :-)......all in all doing fine

Great, I had the perfect day yesterday. Feeling good and no cravings at all. It does get easier, and the bad days will only happens once every week or not even that....I can live with that!

Pedz profile image
Pedz

Definitely less cravings thats a fact, love it

All ok today?

All good, had a few colleagues offering me a fag today...people are just mean! It doesn't bother me anyways, all good.

Pedz profile image
Pedz

Glad you can resist them though, here at work the none smoking lounge is right next to the smokers lounge and it's all glass I'm looking at them puffing away right now lol I'm not tempted in the slightest to go in there anyway it stinks ha ha reformed or what

Hey, I actually had a laugh...the one that offered me a cigarette is a serial quitter like me, the difference is I am really happy for other people's success and some people turn green with envy... She pretended that she forgot I was not smoking anymore... But really?! We were only talking abt it 2 days ago! Women ( allowing for the exceptions) can be really something else!!! 😀

Hercu profile image
HercuValued Contributor in reply to

I also thought that some people are green.... They really did not expect us to be true to our quit and then they try to be don't care about it...

But it is very nice to stand our ground ....Well done Mmaya...

RoisinO1 profile image
RoisinO1Administrator3 Years Smoke Free in reply to

That is just horrible and extremely mean mmaya that someone would offer you a cigarette and I certainly would not put up with it.

In what situation at work did they offer you a smoke?? Did they just come up to you and offer you a smoke?

It is pure jealously that they done that to you - there is always one or two, I have them here at work too and it is so obviously they are pining for me to fail but they don't outnumber the number who are so happy for me (smokers) and very encouraging.....

Just say "No thankyou, I don't smoke" if she offers you a cigarette Mmaya ;) . I'm looking forward to being able to say that to someone myself, only trouble is that almost everyone I know doesn't smoke.

Keep going, you're doing so well.:D

in reply to nsd_user663_51263

Linda. Would you like a cigarette? Xxx

No thankyou Mmaya, I don't smoke. WE don't smoke.:D

Saying no thanks i dont smoke is one of the greatest parts of being a non smoker!

I'm not counting anymore... Somewhere after 30 lol too tired to think, left my brain at home today! I will start week 6 tomorrow :)

in reply to

...actually, now that I came home and picked up my brain again, I might have started week 6 last night at 7 pm...well I don't care! Pete, I didn't realise you smoked for so long....well done you! I'm about the same as you, started smoking when I was 12 and I'm 40 in 2 weeks!

Hi quitters I had an awful day today just been told I'm going to be stuck on this sh**hole for 3 weeks over Christmas and new year grrrr

Really wanted to smoke but got through it so that was the worst craving since I quit

in reply to Pedz

Join my club then! Go back a few posts an read what I told about stopping the champix....I told it was coming, if it wasn't that issue, it would have been another one, it's typical!!!! Stay strong buddy

RoisinO1 profile image
RoisinO1Administrator3 Years Smoke Free in reply to Pedz

Hey pedz, not sure what you mean about above (job you want to leave?) but well done you for not caving in today, that is huge and I too have adapted and cracked how best to cope with stress at work and my personal life that I don't think of smoking to relief the stress, it is different for everyone, but what I say to myself the urge to smoke will pass quicker than actually having a smoke and will do absolutely nothing to resolve the stressful situation and I quickly do something to distract me, be it going to the loo, going online to read the something of interest, making a cup of tea / water etc..Well done again, strongs!

Man we are really in sinc lol I've had such a horrible day at work as well! Might have occurred to me to go out and smoke! I could do without the stupid stress, really! Another day like today and I'll go on sick leave, I just cannot japardize my quit for the sake of dealing with low levels! I'm am very upset, very angry today, we go back to the days where I just wanted to grab someone's neck and twist it sloooowly until I hear it crack! Thank god I'm not always like this, cranky and moody people must have really sad and lonely lifes

Pedz profile image
Pedz

Totally know where you're coming from lol been doing this job for a long assed time and had enough but I want my house paid off before I make a career change nearly there now now lol then I nice easy semi retirement will do the trick ahhhhhh....oh yeah today. Was a strong one but never in any danger ha :-)

in reply to Pedz

I'm proud of us today! You're a man with a plan, nothing will stop you. I'm more like a very experienced loser. I do have a lot of experience in failing, might come in handy this quit. None of us smoked, hang in there and I'll do the same ;)

Pedz profile image
Pedz

Be nice to yourself:-)

Pedz profile image
Pedz

Hey girl I'm still hanging in there but been a bit tougher today for some reason but still doing ok just having to put a bit more effort into it today

Hey Pete, it is extremely important that you don't put your guards down, the relapse rate around week 6/7 is very high. I've never managed to go past week 7 before, it's not cravings any more, it's not psychology either, it's physical. by week 6 all the old nicotine receptors in the brain are like zombies looking for food. They start reducing in number from now until week 12, by then we will have the same amount of "feel good" receptors as a non smoker and it gets easier. Stay very alert and my advice to you is to Not feed the receptors with chocolate and sugar because that will delay the process. Stay strong my friend. We'll make it through ;)

Pedz profile image
Pedz

Hi girl love the zombie simaly made me chuckle yeah defo more zombie activity lately really strong at times but still at it fighting zombies :-)

in reply to Pedz

I do have a very acute sense of humor, and an unusual sharpness for sarcasm...which means no one usually gets my jokes and I have 2 jobs, trow a joke and laugh alone...sometimes I have to explain myself and no one gets me...too many cartoons in my head. Great to have you around Pete, at least I now have someone that understands me :)

Pedz profile image
Pedz

Yeah man all good am here we kinda been left to it on the forum ha ha I remember the last time I quite by week 7 I had more or less binned the champix thought I had it beat but f***ed it up I was devastated all that effort for nowt now I use the zombie analogy in my head when I get a craving and just Laff it off :-) oh and make the odd Zombie noise to myself passes the time X :-)

I just came back from the shops, I think I might have found the solution to kill the zombies, let me try it for 2 or 3 days before I share :) stay strong buddy!
