Day 1 starts tomorrow

Well here goes, tomorrow I will officially be a non smoker. Today is day 14 of the Champix and I cut down over the last week, didn’t smoke yesterday and had 1 the previous 2 days.

I had a stash of 2 which I smoked tonight for a daft reason.

I felt like I paid for them therefore I would use them, yep dumb but there you go.

It’s also given me a sense of completion And finality which is a little odd I guess but a good feeling.

Since starting the larger tablets I’ve been feeling a little breathless usually in the evenings. Tonight I remember the last time I took them I had the same thing happen, it’s not terrible just a little bit annoying. I will mention it to the doc on Friday I think as it is a fairly common side affect.

As long as it doesn’t get any worse I can live with it, just hoping my doc agrees.

If anyone else has experienced this I would love to hear/have some reassurance as I don’t want it all to fall apart now!

Thanks!

Sending out good vibes to you all ☺️

Great to read Sollana that you have put out your last cigarette and on this amazing rediscovery of a so much better life and health smoke free!

Definitely discuss the breathlessness with your doctor. Not sure if it is a side effect. Below is a helpful pinned post worth a read if not already done so:

Looking forward to reading your progress :)

It’s 8.12am Roisin01 so only just begun 🙂

It does say shortness of breath is a side effect of Champix on the website it’s not a really common one though but not a rare one either.

How are you getting on now Sollana ?

Hi Roisin thanks for checking in with me 😊

Haven’t had a smoke for 2 days now, tonight was a little difficult and I almost caved but have battled through. Kept reminding myself that it won’t help since the Champix makes them obselete so even if I did smoke it wouldn’t be satisfying. It’s almost bedtime and then I won’t be thinking about it haha.

Still having the air hunger/shortness of breath. Still not sure what that’s about. Still think it’s the tablets but I do notice if I’m busy it goes away.

Vicks is handy - it’s annoying but not making me panic or anything. Singing helps lol

Day 3 begins tomorrow. 😁

The really nice thing is that I notice how much less I feel tied to them, life isn’t all about the next fix and I can take my time, less rushing more sedate. I always hid my addiction from people some people have known me for years and still don’t know I was a smoker. It’s never been something I was ever proud of - and my house smells so much better and so do I.

Ah delighted for you Sollana - the breathlessness could be a side effect but also as a result of your lungs beginning the gradual process of healing, repairing and recovering. Continue to use the vicks and vaporize a few times a week. Also, raw honey (jar honey will work too) every morning and night is great to help assist with clearing out the lungs. I still take it 3 years on. But if gets any worse or not improve, head to your doctor for piece of mind.

After all those years, you now have something to be very proud off, well done!!

Thank you! 🙂 I’m really happy after my last failed attempt with Champix I was a bit concerned this time it wouldn’t work either.

I would like to imagine it was my lungs healing but since I got it last time I took Champix when I failed I never actually managed to stop, if anything I went into panic mode and smoked more so pretty sure it’s not that.

Thankfully I love honey and have a couple of jars of local stuff in the cupboard I will start adding into my morning cuppa 😃

I go to see my doc on Friday so will mention it to him anyway just to be on the safe side. I had pneumonia many years ago and suffer a lot of allergies like hay fever and sinusitis. I’m not taking the antihistamine at the moment as I’m taking the Champix.

Think this is day 4 or 5 now. Still not smoked! Go me lol 😂

Have had a few cravings though especially in the evenings when I’ve settled down for the night. I’ve found myself reaching for one and then remembering. Or have an urge to have one where my want gets pretty strong. Keep reminding myself that it won’t do any good as even if I caved in it wouldn’t satisfy me at all.

The breathlessness comes and goes, Not as bad as previously (please don’t make that mean famous last words) I’m always ok when busy it’s only when I sit down I get it.

Focusing on the positives not spelling like an ashtray, spending less money, not being tied to them when I go out or want to be around people.. I hid my addiction so well that it affected the amount of time I spent around people.. now it’s more relaxing 😌

I can’t wait to get to the point I’m not reaching for one without thinking.

Not long now to your first big milestone of 1 week now Sollana - have you been taking the honey, preferably a spoonful every morning and night, swallowed quickly! :P

They say it takes 21 days to break a habit, things will improve soon, I promise. Take it one day at a time, you are doing great :)

Hi Roisin, I have been taking the honey in my tea lol it’s local and delicious 😋

The breathlessness has improved, just a little bit of it and less often.

My craving threw all its toys out of the pram tonight and begged for one. I survived .

my nose is repairing I think as things are smelling a bit different like stronger (which sounds good in theory except my sense of smell is exceptionally acute as it is...) and in getting strange smells going on in there too.

The Champix kill my sense of taste so I cant comment on that. But I am eating way too much and have gained a ton of weight...that concerns me a lot. I can’t exercise due to Heath issues so won’t be able to shift it if it gets out of control.. 😣😣

Good to read things are improving Sollana , yeah, the new found sense of smell is unreal, that was one of the first things I noticed and like you had already an acute smell. My taste buds really go wild too and everything tastes so much better smoke free.

When you are more settled in your journey, you can work on any weight gain and get a healthier eating pattern. I am 3 years smoke free, still working on this :)

Hi Roisin, I had meant to update this but I have had the flu for 2 weeks and work is getting busy now so struggling time/health wise to pop in.

I’m still going and still taking the Champix. I still get the occasional urge to smoke but definitely less of a craving and more of a ‘id like’ 😄 doesn’t last long and I’m sticking to the one day at a time thing. I definitely smell better everything smells better and will smell even better when I lose the tail end of the flu and don’t have the cold.

Last night I found money in my pocket that I took out on Monday and still have because I’m not buying cigs was a really good feeling 😄😁😃😆

Good to read Sollana - I hear ya about the flu, I am on day 4 in bed, with sinus congestion, sore ears, headache and a horrendous cough, I swear, to hear me at the moment you would think I was a serious heavy smoker, the bark of me is that bad :O Hopefully it has peaked now and will start getting and feeling better. I haven't slept properly in 5 nights. One good thing though is I will have it over me for Christmas!!

I am on champix starting week 4.

The first 2 week was not good. Specially the night one. Hard breathing and sleeping and feel sick. So no I only take the morning one and that is all. And I feel. Great no cravings. And smoke free day 8. My doctor said to keep going with one. If it works for me
