Firstly, huge well done on making the decision to quit. As a girl who has spent a good deal of time worrying about my weight I found actually taking the step to quit more difficult than I imagined because I was terrified about putting weight on.
Still, I took the plunge, like you I gained quickly on the first little while but it came back under control quickly and it will for you too.
You've lost weight before so you KNOW you can do it again.
Also, have a look at the dieting part of these forums, you'll get brilliant advice there.
Lastly, never doubt that what you're doing is absolutely the best possible thing you could be doing for yourself. You'll have massively improved health, more money, but more importantly, you're going to be so flipping proud of yourself and rightly so! Hang in there, stay strong, be proud and post on here as much as you want to.
I'm just not seeing anything positive since I've quit. Maybe I quit for the wrong reasons. I wanted a new car, have now found I can't have one anyway. I wanted to improve my energy levels, I feel exhausted and yet I can't sleep.
All thats happened is that I've gained weight and I'm miserable. I'll head back to the land of 'carb free' and see how I get on :(
Everyone quits for different reasons, that doesn't change the myriad of benefits you're next door to reaping petal.
Please don't lose patience, it can be trying at the beginning of your quit but trust me it gets better and you won't be able to stop smiling then! I was so happy about 3 weeks in. I can't describe how proud I was.
Hang in there come what may. Are you going to let a plant beat you Pager? You're stronger than that, you know you are.
And, don't apologise for ranting, I'd rather you rant than smoke any day
I gained weight when I quit but felt weight gain was better than smoking and I deserved to eat if I wasn't smoking and once I was over the smoking thing and stronger then I could concentrate on my weight and that's what I did. I have been doing alternate day fasting for the past year and I have lost three stone [best diet in the world I think] I have been running for the last 10 months which is a shocking life change because as a smoker I could barely walk up a slight hill without wheezing now I can run over three miles.
those benefits will come and once your past the early days of your quit you will start to see them emerge and there will be loads.
Try and think of the positive things you can do. You can get through this and get somewhere. Take a long hard look inside yourself - have you been eating more to have an excuse to smoke? Not saying this is the case, but I will pick fights with people so I can say "oh look, I have to smoke as I am so mean - you want me to smoke".
If not, pause and consider what you can do with the money saved from smoking - I mentioned in a post earlier - my most successful quit I bought a gym membership - I lost 40lbs in six months while quitting. The two went well together as I got the endorphin high of exercise, the fitness benefits from weight loss, exercise and quitting came together in a wonderful way. In fact, I lost that quit 14 months later when I pulled my quad, immediately followed by health problems that led to lack of exercise.
I really hope you can separate the two issues in your head and work on both independently.
I think you need to be careful you don't use gaining weight as an excuse to smoke again. We all put on weight, but that can be dealt with!!
Think Genes has a point, are you almost giving yourself an excuse to smoke again by eating? I've done the self-sabotage thing too and believe me it's not worth it.
Have a think about what you've been eating, cut down on the unhealthy stuff (especially white carbs like white bread, pasta etc) and eat healthy things you like. Some foods (watermelon, celery etc) use more calories to digest than you get out of them which is a bonus
Finally, something I saw somewhere:
Smoking helps you lose weight. One lung at a time.
Sarah Lou on here is having a lot of success with Slimming World, so sh might be able to give you some tips
About the energy, that's normal. Nicotine is a powerful stimulant and when you don't have it any more you will feel like a zombie for a bit, but then with less nasties in your body you feel heaps better!!
