Hello all,

After a frustrating 20 minutes trying to work out the correct thing to type in to prove I wasn't a spammer (didn't even attempt the vocal one) I have finally logged in!

Today is my 5th day not smoking, I've gone cold turkey as I have done previously, never tried the patches or inhalours. I only really smoked of an evening or the weekend when I'm at home and at the end of a day. Roll ups or joints.

I always thought of walking and smoking as counterproductive, exercise and smoking?! Plus the antisocial element to smoking weed means i wouldnt do it in the street.

Anyway I am a fairly active 35 year old who does martial arts twice a week and to get the most out of training I decided to quit. Plus I was recently lucky enough to be asked to be a God parent so thought it time to get myself into some kind of role model way. Plus get on with my own life something a joint or two a night hinders somewhat.

I've been smoking since I was 17, on and off and have given up for as long as six months previously. I am relatively fit for someone who has smoked that much and fully know the benefits of not smoking as well as the relative joys of smoking on sunny holidays in hammocks and sea breezes!

Sunday 16th was my last day and I had the raving hump Monday and Tuesday but those are training nights so i got to take it out on classmates Jujitsu style. I would really reccomend a form of physical exertion to take your mind off things.

I got the start of head cold and mucus etc on day three and today I'm full on sneezing and sniffling all the time. I read its the hairs in my throat/lungs emerging from their forced hiberation and getting back to work. Somewhat romatiscised but you know what I mean. I've been drinking gallons of water and trying to get full nights sleep, my sleep definately has suffered averaging around 5-6 hours. mostly block but a bit uneven when I wake up at 5am and try to nod off again.

I had the day off yesterday and burnt my shoulders something rotten (was lovely in my part of essex) and am now trying to get as much aloe on my skin as possible so I don't think this is helping the cold/throat reconstruction.

Right that's a long post fingers crossed it goes up, good luck to all I look forward to joing in comments and being commented on.

Time to cook some dinner - ta ta for now

Hello SX, well done on your Day 5, and don't worry about the flu. I am on day11 and on my day four i also got the flu - still have it. My dr also said that it is the hairs on your lungs and he actually told me -before i quit - that ONE ciggarette numbs the hair in your lungs for 10 days!!! That is bad!!!

Do hope you feel better soon and again - WELL DONE!
