OMG! This is day one and I am having horrible withdrawls. I don't know what to do. I want to go buy a pack. That's what I want to do. But, I really want to quit. I don't know what to do.:(

Hi and welcome to the forum.

The 1st week is by far the worst, but the good news is that once its out of the way you never have to repeat it!

Quitting is 5% physical and 95% psychological, if you get your mind in the right place then everything else will follow. We are conditioned to think that quitting is hard and as such we find it hard however if we concentrate on the fact that many many people have achieved it we can actually see that its very doable!

The physical withdrawal takes 3 weeks after which time its all about learning to live as a non smoker and braking down the associations with smoking and situations.

Try to see quitting as a positive thing, regaining health, wealth and control rather than making a sacrifice and forgoing some great pleasure and you will find it easier.

Distraction is a useful tool to get you through the 1st few days and this place is a great one to be distracted in. Also have a read about nicotine addiction and what to expect while quitting the links in my signature contain loads of info and a couple of free online cessation programs.

Hang in there you have made the right choice.

All the best

Nic

hope that you will be feeling stronger today and well done for making the decision to quit smoking.

Agree with what all have said so far .. just be patient, dig deep and take deep breaths and before you know it another minute, hour , day etc has passed. One small step at at time and try to keep busy. It will get easier but you must be patient.

let us know how you are getting on

Helpme it's tough I know as well as others I just got home from field trip with son that didn't allow smoking and I did great didn't think I would but did. I stayed busy with activities but then got home Friday now today is Monday I've smoked a pack and half better than what I was pack a day but I really want to quit so I'm trying again if staying busy the withdrawal will go away but home sitting being bored it's hard so we can work together to come up with activities I hope house cleaning doesn't work for me it may you but I cleaned all day but kept stopping to smoke. But it may work for you. Good luck

hang in there it does get easier
