Champix - feeling very depressed

Good evening Everyone,

I don't know where to start. I have been taking Champix for 10 weeks and it's worked for me however I don't seem to feel very well.

I don't seem to be myself anymore. I have been crying now for 4 hours. Something really silly has triggered me off. Honestly I have never felt so down in my life before.

I don't want to stop Champix as I don't want to ruin my quit. What to do... Please help:confused:

I don't know sweetheart, but I don't think you should feel like that it is probably the champix I don't know as I have never took it but hang in there and I am sure someone with the experience of it will come on soon, you should make an appointment to see your doc though and he will be able to maybe give you something to combat the depressive side of the drug.

If you continue to feel that way have you got some one who can talk to you or go round your Mums??? don't let it get any worse

angel (((((hug)))))

I'm really sorry, no experience of Champix. I know it causes depression in some people but it seems odd that it would start up after ten weeks of (presumably successfully) taking it? I would *definitely* see the GP as soon as you can.

In the meantime, like J says, can you find someone to talk to?

Hope someone with more knowledge of Champix will be along soon. Hang in there xxxx

Hi Guys,

I have now stopped taking Champix.

I didn’t sleep all night long, all my mates at work kept asking me what was wrong, I burst into tears twice at work(which I have never done at work before), my partner is not talking to me. I have turned into a monster. He gave me a card on Monday for our 5th anniversary and I have torn it into pieces. Basically it couldn’t be any worse.

I really appreciate your responses as I have no one to talk to. I stay far away from family, tried talking to my sister last night however kept weeping all the time so I said I would call her today.

Take care,

angel

Really glad to see you back and if not great then at least feeling a little better, I think you have done the right thing stopping the champix and seeing how you get on, there other things you can get if you start to struggle, keep using the forum as well because it really helps to keep you focussed and gives you other things to concentrate on.

We are always here for you as well.

Epic Failure! :-(

Hi,

I am on day 18 of Champix and still smoking. My quit day was day 12, but the day before this myself and my partner split up. I feel so stressed I dont seem to be able to stop, even though I'm not particularly enjoying them that much anymore. I dont know what to do for the best, all I get from the stop smoking service is 'come back next week'. Do I percivere or abandon it until I'm in a better place?? Feel like a complete failure! x

Saralouise,

Don't worry you haven't quit yet. Everyone is different. I was exactly the same. I haven't stopped on a day I chose but later. Don't force yourself into it.

I stopped and then I started smoking again (exactly like you I had problems with my partner). But finally I stopped again (does it ake sense?!) Don't give up. Keep taking Champix if you do not suffer from side affects. It will work.

If I can give you a piece of advice (from my own experience) keep an eye on how you're feeling. I have become very depressed and after having stopped Champix a week ago I' still not well.

Any questions, just ask

Take care xx

Little angel,

Thanks for your advice, feeling really low at the moment but I'm guessing thats more down to the break-up than the Champix. I'm going to try and not stress myself too much, I'll drag myself back to the smoking clinic tonight and see what they have to say - what a time to quit hey! Like it wasnt going to be hard enough - hindsight is a wonderful thing! x

Hello

Just joined today and read this and wanted to post.

I tried Champix around a year ago and had to stop after one week. I have NEVER felt so depressed in my life. I was walking round like a zombie, my face contorted, I couldn't smile and thought I was going mad.

I went for a meal with my mum who told me to stop taking them straight away and Im glad I did.

It took me about a week to come back to normal.

You've done the right thing....good luck with the non smoking, are you back on the cigarettes?

Take Care

Morning!

I took you only a week to come back to normal. That's my third week I have been like this for. I don't know what to do anymore.

The only good thing is I have stopped smoking.

Any ideas how to 'come back to normal'?

Morning!

Langel - its probably a mixture of the natural loss felt by quitting smoking and the Champix, I went back smoking just about as soon as I came off the tablets.....

I'm not definitely not recommending you did what I did but you just need to do whats right for you...you've clearly gone through a lot already, I know what it was like, maybe wait a week or two and see what happens, you are probabaly through the worst of it! It will take while for your mind to get back to normal but it will happen! Try exercise and try not to worry as worrying won't help!

All the best and keep me updated x

Getting there!

Hiya again

Just a quick update to let everyone know I am feeling sooooo much better :D

Getting happier and happier every day. Even went out today and bought loads of nice clothes for my birthday and holiday (concerning the fact I was so depressed a few weeks ago that I spent a couple of weekends in bed).

It was Champix that made me feel so miserable. It's a fact. So please anyone who is taking it- be careful!

Going cold turkey but I'm not even tempted to have a cig after what I have gone through!

Take care, LA xx

Reading that has made me smile and I am sure you will go from better to even more better, grammar is terrible but who cares as long as you can get those little bits at the side of your mouth to curl up and not down, there are some extended tests being done at the moment on champix so yes you are right to tell anyone who is not feeling great on them to see Dr or Nurse, CT is not so bad I promise and within a few days the body has disposed of most of the gunk and will start to get back to a level you will be able to cope with, isn’t it nice to shop for some lovely new clothes that you know want end up stinking of fags and also want end up with ciggy burn holes in them, have a great time on hols and if you are not going yet then keep us posted.

Anyone else who is struggling with the champix try and see someone and also try to consider the other options, there are many out there.

Patients should be given a warning regarding depression prior to starting the course of champix. I know that it may not be given to any patients who have a history of depression - but that's the doctor's call.

Champix is my preferred method of giving up because I have managed to give up for 2 years in the past using it. I am currently a smoker and I am giving up using champix at the moment.

I am in the second (the give up week) week of the 12 week course and I was aware of the side affects (depression) from the previous time so I was able to prepare myself. I think it's a relief to know what is causing the depression and knowing what you know now, you should be better placed to manage it.
