Chest tar

Been off the weed since 1/1/13, doing well and about to move into the 4th month using CT and Carr. However, I am just getting over a bout of flu which knocked me out for 2 weeks. More that 10 years since I have been on the sick!!! Part of the flu was a chest infection and blocked head etc which still effects me now even after a month. The point I am getting to is that my chest rattles and I am coughing up lots of gunk and black stuff. After previous quits I am aware of the small speckled tar bits that come off the chest but these are much larger. I am supposing my chest infection has been worse because of my quit which is in effect clearing my lungs more vigorously. Has anyone had any similar experience?

I had that too, just after Christmas.

Started off not having much of a cough, then a few weeks in it got like an annoying tickle and then huge coughing fits where I could hardly breathe, it made me sick too.

Wasn't very nice but at least it's getting the tar out!! It's a bit scary to think that *stuff* is down there though

Hi, i've not coughed up anything yet, i've been expecting it, but nothing.

Does most people experience the clearing of lungs process ?

I have had a cold since i've quit and was expecting something to happen then.

Maybe because i've smoked for a lot of years its gona take a while to happen.

Everyone's different really Netti - it *is* clearing out but not quite so dramatically!!

I would always say go and get a check up at the docs! If nothing else it would put your mind at rest.I am sure that is what is happening, but he may just give you some meds that shift it easier? Worth going Dicko!

Hi Netti, I haven't coughed anything up either and I smoked for 40 years. I think everyone is different, dont bother about it.:)

Hi Dicko and Netti, Gemma's right - it can go both ways. Personally I had man flu and it was like coughing up pesto! :D

Your lungs can take between one and nine months to rid themselves of the build-up, sometimes it's a sharp clearout, other times it's a leisurely moving about of the gunk and we end up swallowing half of it. It will happen, noticeably for some and not for others.

Any road, it's gonna shift so got to be good! :)

I used to constantly cough brown phlegm up, I realised today I haven't coughed any up for ages which I'm assuming must be good!

About five weeks after I stopped smoking I had a horrendous bout of laryngitis and completely lost my voice. This was just before Christmas and it's still not quite right now. Anyone else had this?
