Help - Newbie - No body rewards

Hi Everyone

This is my first time on this site, I am 12 days into my quit and feel like ----.

I have not reaped any body rewards as lots of people have mentioned;

No difference in sense of taste/smell

No extra lung capacity

I do have ulcers in my mouth, disturbed sleep, tiredness and I am putting on weight from constantly eating!!

Do anyone know when I will start reaping the rewards?

Financially I have saved £86, BUT I want body benefits.

Hi Jane

Welcome to the party.

Just give yourself time, the benefits will come...honestly :)

When they do you will want to stay quit even more.

These things happen at different times for everybody.

I didn't notice increased lung capacity for weeks to be honest, but when I did ... I didn't realise my lungs went that deep!

The weight you can sort out at a later date.

Your main priority is to quit, it should be top of your agenda.

Keep going and you will get your benefits soon :)

Take care

Greg

I have had terrible withdrawals this time...like you ulcers in the mouth, extreme fatigue, really moody and horrible to my loved ones sadly, but I have persevered with this because I want to stop smoking that is it, no going back now, our addiction will start looking for excuses to entice us back to the fags trust me I have fallen for it a few times, the fact that you are not noticing body changes does not mean they are not happening, The brain is important in all this it will tell you to start smoking again, it is giving you an excuse to light up.....Do not listen Day 12 is amazing I am only on day 16 we can do this together...

Thank you both, I am fighting the occasional craving and I am determined to quit, but I was wondering how long I will feel out of sorts (I understand everyone is different), and how long it will take to reap some rewards, physically, some people have said they feel rewards very early on!

I also feel something is missing (and I guess it is) but nothing I do, seems to pacify the missing something. Hope that makes sense.

It does make sense jane...you are missing the cigs..quitting is a 'forever' thing and it is very hard to accept knowing you can never do something again that you enjoyed so much...quitting in the early days is a bit like a grieving process but it does get easier honestly...

Hi Jane

What you are going through is all totally normal, in case you were wondering :)

I felt as though there wasn't just something missing, I felt I had suffered a death in the family! It was quite shocking how "attached" to smoking I had become

But over time, again different time for each person, it gets easier and easier.

I still feel I have something missing now, 3 months on, but definitely nowhere near the shock to my system at the beginning.

Time is a great healer, if we allow it.

Stay strong and take care

Greg

What's the rush, Jane? Do you honestly think you are the only person in the world who will not experience physical improvements after quitting? Is there something unique about your body which means it hasn't already started to repair itself?

If you start winding yourself up that you aren't getting any physical benefits, then you are increasing the pressure on yourself and demoralising yourself. Neither will help you stay quit.

Take it easy on yourself. The benefits will be along soon. In the meantime you have made a great start, well done.

I can understand how you might want to feel some physical benefits as it does help to stay motivated. I also dont notice much happening and to be honest didnt before either even after several months. I think its because things improve a little bit every day rather than a massive change immediately, so it is hard to "see" it. I would suggest you stop monitoring your self and concentrate on other benefits, or whatever else helps keeping the quit going.

Obviously not, but the additional motivation would help!!

This is the reason I need to keep the quit going?

Sorry I am not a grumpy person, I was just wondering WHEN it would be likely I would reap the rewards.

Thank you Lostie, that is the support I need.

I have just been to my local shop to buy polos :), and the shopkeeper who knows me quite well, asked if I had done anything different, as my skin looks great :) so maybe there are changes, just so gradual that I am unaware of them.

I have just had a look at my tongue and that appears rather pink too.

Hi Jane :)

It can take a while to notice the difference but your body is healing!!

I guess it depends how long and how much you smoked but you will notice the good things soon, I'm sure

If people are noticing that you're looking better that's a good step 'cos it means your body's flushing out all the toxins!!

Like Nifty says it does feel odd at first. I still get a sort of empty feeling at times 'cos I spent the best part of 13 years convincing myself that fags made everything better and of course doing something around 20 times a day makes for a big shock when you stop  but that really does fade!!

Am 6 weeks in now and it feels a bit annoying at times but so much better than when I stopped first.

Stick with it and you'll notice good things happening soon

Thank you Gemma, I will look forward to reaching your 6 weeks.

I had been smoking 25 a day for 22 years (notice the had). This is my first attempt to quit, so unsure of the pros and cons.

Hiya Jane,

I used to take a mental note of how I was feeling both psychologically and physically every Monday morning. I'm not sure I would have noticed some of the more subtle improvements for a while if I hadn't done that.

You'll notice that something will be better every single week, that is still happening for me 16 weeks later! The good news just keeps on coming :)

Please stick with it,

I promise it is so worth it just be patient

nsd_user663_55073

I'm so glad the dark mist has lifted today, I guess we will have good and bad days, we just have to ride the waves:). Yes the heartburn, I'm not getting it as much now, but the first 8 days I was woken in the middle of the night (every night) with intense heartburn, I haven't heard much of this on this forum so it's good to see someone else has had it. (Not that I'm glad you had it, if you know what I mean lol )

Hi Jane, we are all in a rush at the start to see improvements and benefits, on this you are not alone. However everyone is different and to be honest I didn't really feel loads of physical benefits apart from breathing easier (fantastic I know)

I gained weight and had mouth ulcers, bleeding gums and nightmares. I was in mourning and felt there was nothing to look forward to. All of things are now in the past and I feel great apart from the weight:eek: I will tackle that soon.

I just wanted you know that not everyone does feel better straight away but some do. You are definitely doing the best thing for your body though and your purse.xx:)
