Help newbie with mega craving

Hi folk's

I have been lurking here trying to find tips on how you all cope without the dreaded cig's

I gave up 11 day's ago starting with the 24 hr patch but found i could not sleep and felt really dizzy so after 4 days stopped wearing the patch and have been going cold turkey since.

However for the last few hours i have been gagging for a cig even went out to the shops to buy some!! however when i got there i changed my mind and thought i will get through this..can anyone tell me how long this cravings will continue? as it really is getting to me i feel i must continue as i feel if i have a cig now then the last 11 days will have been a total waste of time this is the first time i have quit after smoking 20 a day for the last 28 years will it get better?

I do get encouragement from those of you who have stopped and think your all great giving your support to those who are trying keep up the good work!

Hi JST :)

Well done on 11 days quit that's great

Feeling dizzy is normal at the start of a quit the nicotine is out of your system it would be a shame to put some back now

But if you feel you really can't cope without something why not use the patch I didn't use them myself but a lot on her didn't use the 24 hr one all the time they took it off at night and say that helps with the sleeping problems

Well done also that you didn't buy any fags when you went out with that intention and you're right it would be a shame to lose the quit now all that hard work for nothing and having to do it all over again

Below is my standard welcome and advice post which I try and send to all new members click the links in there and read I think you'll find it a big help with the craves

Many thanks for your kind words Marg + Joan i have now slapped on a patch

but will take it off before i go to bed as it was horrible not being able to sleep

i will continue with them for a bit as i have quite a busy period of work coming up and dont want to have the feelings i had earlier.

once again thanks for your words of encouragement.

Hey JST,

welcome to the forum. Day 11 was my hell day.... it was also the day I found some old smokes in my car and I proceeded to smoke 2...... I thought like you about the horrid 11 days past and the fact I was about to waste them..... I threw the rest away and struggled through each day waiting for it to get easier..... and it did (although I think those 2 I snuck in made it harder). So you push through this awful time you hear! It is so worth it..... this forum was what I clung to and it helped me get through it all..... you can do it as well! Good luck and hang in there!

Hey JST,

Good on you for not buying them fags. One of the things that helps me when having weak moments is the thought that the pain of quitting smoking is 1/100th that of someone trying to quit Heroin, so really you are lucky in that respect, and thank your lucky stars that your addiciton is 100 times easier to beat.

Hope this helps.

After putting a patch on I hope it was easier for you last night also hope you slept well

I remembered earlier this thread about weaning yourself of patches OK

am giving you a lnik to it

On this thread there also some other links about patches which may help you

:) Many thanks Amsie..Bellablue..Marg

Ta very much for your words..well craving vanished an hour or 2 after i put on the patchand i remembered to remove it before bed but did have rather weird dreams lol. Anyway got up at 7am and not had any cravings but have thought of fags for a few seconds prob everyone has these thought's then its out of my mind, im off out to get more patches (just in case the urge returns) are the inhaltors any good? i may try as another back up.

Thanks Marg for the thread you sent. hope you all have a lovely wk/nd and

thanks again for your encouragement it's really appreciated.

Really pleased you feel better today and the craves much easier for you

Weird dreams are normal for most of us however we quit but they will pass

Thinking about fags is also normal just now

I don't know anything about the inhalors although several on here use them and for sure someone will be along in a bit to tell you about them

I would recommend the Electronic Ciggerettes as an aid to giving up, although I reckon Cold Turkey is the best way to give up, there was times in the first 2 weeks when I needed a puff, and turned to that.

Well done on day 11, you are a day ahead of me!

I also have problems sleeping and have been taking a herbal sleeping tablet to help. I get very restless in the evenings and find it hard to settle when I go to bed. I'm also wide awake when I lye down! The sleeping tablets have helped, even if its just mentally!

Keep going, you are doing so well. All I think is that if I start again I will have to quit again and going through those first few days is just too fresh in my memory to do it all again!!

Pink x

Craving's gone for time being.

Thanks Amsie for info and cheers to you Pinkbunny.

Just to let you know i bought one of those inhaltors yesterday just to try i dont know about others who have tried them but i thought the taste was horrid...... think it has put me off smoking for life lol.

Anyway just to say that after my horrible craving episode on friday i have been feeling much better. Touch wood no cravings but i am sure it will raise its ugly head again! i shall just have to get on with it like the rest of you in the same situation. I still have patches in the cupboard in case of emergency's but so far i have not felt the need to wear one.

I do hope one and all are coping and would like to thank everyone for their support:)

Pleased to hear that you're feeling much better and the craves have gone

Good idea keeping a few patches for emergencies but hopefully you won't need to use them again
