Day 31

Hey ladies and gents,

Well its day 31 for me and Im feeling a bit confused, My health care assistant said I was doing really well and decided to start me on step two of my patches earlier than planned. (I agreed this is also what I wanted)

So on Monday I started step two and felt like I had been flung back right to day 1 of my quit! I was very tearful, moody and Angry.. anyway this lasted right up to this morning but I now feel positive again about my quit (infact I feel great) So Im putting the last two days down to the fact that Im on the lower patch.

So my question is this... am I going to feel like that again when I go onto step three and then again when I stop the patches altogether?? Could anyone that has tried the patches offer me any advice on this?

Thank you! I hope all your quits are going well.

Hi

I think we all get odd moments of that to some degree. I was on the strong patches for a week, stopped them because they made me feel ill. I have moments and have had moments throughout where I have felt angry, tearful, anxious but they dont last long - I dont think its necessarily down to NRT, just part and parcel of the quit and it does get easier to kick the feelings into touch.

Dont forget as smokers we still got moody or tense but didnt have anything to blame it on :D

Hiya!

Day 31 - that's great! You must be really proud :)

The "shock" that our system can have when we decrease nicotine use is why a lot of people just prefer to go cold turkey... so that they don't need to 'quit' nicotine twice.

However, it's also important to consider that you may have been feeling this way because you were very aware of the patches being slightly less strong, almost like a self-fullfilling prophecy.

Don't worry about it too much, the more you stress the more anxious you'll get and the more you'll feel like you need to smoke/eat/hit someone in order to deal with the feelings!

Also, like royaldecameron says, we tend to blame everything on not smoking.

HAHAHAHA :D :D

I relate to that so much! I am no longer the very lovely sweet tempered little thing I used to be when I smoked (;)). In the past I would never ever ever have eaten chocolate, say No when asked by a member of staff if they could have the day off or thought evil thoughts about the really really annoying customer. I would have smiled benignly and done everything everyone asked. Well some of the time anyway!:D

Ooops, so sorry Weezie, didn't mean to hi-jack your post.. apologies and big grovel.

Back to your question... I don't know the exact answer as we do all react differently. I went from top strength patches plus 4mg gum in week one, to 4mg gum only in week 2 and didn't really feel any difference.

Then about week 3 I dropped to 2mg gum. Yes I felt a difference but it only lasted a day. I have tried no gum and did find that quite hard, I haven't completely given it up but use about 2 pieces a day now.

Some of the guys on here believe in cold turkey as they feel that by using NRT all we are doing is prolonging the nicotine in our bodies and thereofore the withdrawal.

I can see the sense in that view but I'd prefer to do it in baby step stages myself.

So... dunno is the honest answer, but logically yes you are likely to have a few withdrawal fellings that hopefully won't last for long.

Once again sorry for the hi-jack :o
